What is a solid range and under cabinet hood for this space?

I'd love some suggestions for my kitchen. I'd like to replace the appliances with stainless steel single oven (30" width) and under cabinet hood. We'll need to buy a smaller microwave (24") which we're thinking about building in to the cabinet with the glass doors. I'm getting lost in all the options and would appreciate some guidance. We have three young kids and spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so I want appliances that work well and will last. I'm considering the dual fuel LG LSD4913ST range. I want a hood that has at least 600 CFM and dishwasher friendly baffle filters vs other types, but I've read that hoods can be made out of a different grade stainless steel and not have same hue as the range. Anyone have thoughts on this, experience to share or suggested resources to use to make these decisions? We're also replacing the backsplash with white beveled edge subway tile.

One other comment that comes to mind, unrelated to kitchen ventilation. If you put a microwave oven in the glass door cabinets location, please note that these ovens typically are hinged to the left, and may prove awkward to load and unload at the left end of a counter facing the counter length. You have an advantage due to that cabinet being at a 45-degree angle to the counter rather than 90 degrees, so it may be less awkward. Otherwise the MW door end tends to be where one's head wants to be.

If the cabinet were redesigned, you might fit a Sharp Over-the-Counter type unit. It hangs from the bottom of a cabinet that fits above it. But sufficient cabinet depth is needed, even in a corner, to keep everything flush. The Sharp OTC unit is a bit of a hassle to put into place with one person, but fairly easy with two. A unit sitting on a shelf is easier to deal with, but less integrated and necessarily smaller for a given cabinet size than one that is nearly full width hanging from the bottom.

I'd start out by figuring out whether the built-in, 24" microwave would work. Perhaps not because these ovens are too deep to fit in the upper cabinet. They're also expensive.

If you can't move the microwave, you could match the LG LMV2031ST over-the-range microwave with the LG LSD4913ST range.

Of course, you could always just put a countertop model where the three white jugs are.

The only LG hood is the LG LSHD3080ST which isn't an undercabinet type.

Maybe it wouldn't matter if a shallow under-cabinet hood didn't match the stove precisely because not a lot of metal would be exposed, and the hood and stove would be separated by a sizable gap.

An induction cooktop will be safer for kids than gas or hot electric coils.

Unless you can go out through the wall at the hood location, expect to have to allocate some of the cabinet space above the hood to its duct (7 or 8 inch diameter).

If you look at the Modern-Aire site, they have several shapes where the front tapers at the top to the depth of an upper cabinet, and the sides are straight so as to butt up to, and cover, the yellow cabinet sides you mentioned. Their typical sizes are 18" and 30" high, but you could get a 24" custom one if your budget allows. Or you could get an 18" and have a box made for above it to cover that area and to which you could attach replacement moulding. The box could be made of either wood matching your moulding or sheetrock. Vent-a-hood has a stainless direct replacement if you decide to stick with the same size you now have. Hello Houzz Community! I found this thread when Googling a similar topic. I'd like to replace my under cabinet hood with a wall mounted hood, and yes I know I have to remove the cabinet above the current hood which I'm fine with (see photo). My existing under cabinet hood vents out the wall to the side of my house - see photo, and note the vent is not blocked by those shrubs, there is space around it, you just can't tell from the angle of the photo :-) So my question is....can a wall mounted hood be installed to vent out the existing vent in the wall, or does a vent need to be created in the ceiling? Also, what type of professional can help answer any related questions I have about this? Would I ask the wall mounted vent manufacturer? Or a handyman? Thank you in advance for any guidance! I am a newbie homeowner and am learning as I go, so truly appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge with me!

It is actually desirable that the hood capture area be extend some distance from the wall, preferably more than 20 inches, such that it overlaps plumes generated from front burners as well as from back burners. Front-to-back limits due to sight lines to back burner pots need to be considered. An example is the Wolf Pro Low-profile hood that is 22-inches front-to-back, probably 20 inches of effective capture area. It is 10 inches high, so one might want to jack the cabinet over it a bit higher to get 30 to 36 inches of clearance. Spaced out 3 inches for a smooth transition to the cabinet doors one would have very good overlap in the forward direction.

Why? The photo shows an enclosed duct above the cabinet to which the microwave is attached.

I didn't notice that chase. However, I don't know if it is sized correctly for use with a real hood, and in any case, it obviously takes up some cabinet space to get air from the microwave oven to the space above the cabinets.

If the OP actually wants 600 CFM, then the hood blower (whether in the hood or external) needs to be rated for about 900 CFM. In order to maintain the 1000 ft/min to 2000 ft/min duct velocity range helpful to minimize grease deposition, the duct diameter for a 600 CFM actual flow rate should be between 8 and 10 inches. What is it now?

Thank you for all of your thoughts. I'm not sure about the duct size, but a contractor is taking a look this week, so hope to figure it out soon.

In my experience, contractors are all about how to connect the pieces together and get the job done. I have yet to meet a contractor who cares much about details such as duct diameter.

But that makes a huge difference. A 1000cfm hood on a 6" duct is just a waste of money. Make sure you listen to @kaseki. He actually knows what he's talking about
