Comments (4)look on 'home decorating' forum and search posts by 'rockybird'. She has a beautiful mid - century mod home in the Phx area and has been remodeling it over maybe the past 2 yrs. She has posted many pics of it pre and post remodel. that might give you some great ideas. she's doing some more remodeling of the kitchen now. might find a pic or 2 on 'kitchens' also....See Morebought a mid century late fifties house. Comments (20)Gothic arches were very popular in midcentury houses Interesting, palimpsest. In S FL, where I grew up, arches were everywhere (very round-topped in the twenties, smoothing out to more of a square opening with rounded corners by the late forties, then round again in the mid- to late-50s), but I never ever saw a gothic arch. Even Palm Beach tended more to the Romanesque or Italianate arch in its heyday. One or two Moorish arches....See MoreMid Century Modern Renovation
Comments (17)The front of the house looks unbalanced to me with the weight of the stone and the large living room window on the right against the light colors and tiny windows on the left. Better balance could be achieved with different paint for the siding. Depending on what's going on inside, I might want to replace the window on what I assume is an upstairs bedroom. midcentury architects loved small, high windows, and I...don't. They are great for privacy and furniture placement, I guess, but I'd rather have more light and I think a bigger window in a style echoing the LR windows would better balance the facade. Of course, it's not my money I'm spending, so take it FWIW. I love the stair railing but if you have small children I would check it against code. Some of those gaps look big enough for a toddler head. If so, I wouldn't replace but I might jury rig something (plexiglas?) until the kids are old enough. The kitchen is very 90s. If a fully remodel isn't in the cards, new slab doors (especially for the uppers) would go a long way toward re-MCMing the kitchen. I have too many allergies to be a fan of wall-to-wall carpet, so I would be looking to replace that. If the house is located more southerly, I might opt for tile throughout the main living area (including the kitchen, so that project might wait until you are ready to remodel the kitchen). I probably would not do hardwood floors with all of the MCM wood elements (which I like a lot). Like the kitchen cabinets, the front door is not in keeping with the style of the house. New door style, maybe in an interesting color, definitely. I don't love the stone, but I probably would not paint it. It's too integral to what the house was intended to be. Definitely give it a chance before committing to painting it. This is me playing with colors, not a recommendation (I like it better than the original but I think there are probably better combos than this)...See MoreRenovating a Mid Century Ranch.
