Comments (3)I don't need motivation to start a quilt except for the initial decision-making on what I want to do. I know that I'm going to make another quilt, but what? That is my biggest hurdle in the beginning. As for finishing, that's another story. Sometimes I overdo the technique or the design, etc. and it becomes a chore to finish. Or I suddenly decide I just don't like the design or colors after all. Or I run into some kind of glitch that I didn't foresee. I have to psych myself into finishing sometimes - for instance, I tell myself that the quilt police don't really exist and no-one really cares if there are flubs in the results but me. Most of the time the piecing is a breeze to me, hardly ever any problems. It's in the quilting that I usually run into trouble. And this last quilt - the pieced backing became too complicated and unnecessary. I also rarely plan a quilt for someone or something in particular. For some reason it's better if I just make a quilt and then decide if I want to give it away and to whom. Of course baby quilts are a different story but in my world there aren't a lot of those. I guess quilting is a pleasurable activity for me and any time there is commitment involved it kills my motivation. I know, it's weird....See MoreQOTD - How long could you sew...
Comments (14)Sounds like everyone buys batting by the roll. I just did that very thing for the first time and probably the last time. LOL! I have lots of thread, some of Connecting Threads collections. Needles, rulers all good. And fabric I will never run out of especially for scrap quilts. While making the masks these past weeks, I have gone through my bins and found pieces that I don't remember buying. And some that I wondered why I bought. If I am making a special quilt such as DGDs’ wedding quilt, then I will shop for new fabric. I do use flannel for the chemo quilt backings so I do have to shop for that. Connecting threads used to have some that I liked but they have dropped that from their inventory. The only other fabric I buy when I see it on sale is neutrals, such as WOW. Scrappies often need a good amount of a light to let the colours shine. And like Sharon, I need a body that will let me sew for longer than an hour or two before it gives up. Comments (5)I've been trying to think which quilt is my favorite, and I'm having a hard time. With almost 90 projects so far, I'm having trouble coming up with just one. So... here are four. Winter Snow from Not Your Grandmother's Log Cabin. I cut all 600 pieces wrong and had to improvise. A total scrappy except for the blue borders. I made it for my step-daughter. Baby Honu, which I made for myself, but gave to my sister when I saw her face when she looked at it. The turtles legs, head and tail are floppy, i.e., not sewn down. Bonnie Hunter's Star Struck, another total scrappy but for the tan border. There must be 100 different fabrics in this one. I kept it for myself. I love it. Maybe the favorite of all - Blushing Aspens. It's all curved piecing, not appliqué. I really enjoyed the quilting on this one, but it was tedious. Made for my sis. She has four of my quilts now....See MoreQOTD Jan 25, 2020
Comments (2)Look at her stitching. If they're close and tight, should be okay. Use the delicate cycle and a dye catcher....See Morenannykins
