Now that I just ordered batting, I can probably sew for a year without having to order more. Fabric-wise, I could sew until I die and still have more leftover. LOL

I have 4-1/2 king size batting rolls so that will last for a while. Good on needles, thread, and like Jackie, probably enough fabric to sew until I die!! I may not like the color combinations, but that will mean I would have to get more creative! Just don't tell my husband!!!!!!!

I don't need fabric but I might have to buy some (if I get that check) to help a quilting store stay open. :-) I'm getting close to needing regular sewing machine needles. There's plenty of thread.......but I sure like looking at fancy notions. What I need is a body that would agree to sit at the sewing machine for a good length of time.

It I wanted to plan a quilt that actually matched, I would need to buy fabric. But since I do scrappy from mainly donated scraps, I can make quite a few quilts. I'll need a new machine needle before too long and I need to order some white thread, so I'm using up all the colored I have for now. However, I just bought a giant roll of batting before the virus craziness got too crazy and I think it makes 12 or 15 quilts. Oh, and I do need to buy some black fabric to finish piecing one of the "hideous" D9P blocks quilt.

Sue, where do you store all that batting? I have enough for two quilts - if that. Fabric, I could make dozens of well-matched quilts, and still have leftovers. Wouldn't need to buy thread or needles either!

I would run out of batting first. But, then, I do tend to make tops and put them in the drawer so I wouldn't notice. I have so much fabric I could open a store. i took two huge suitcases full of fabric to Tucson in February for my daughter. You'd hardly notice an empty spot on the shelf. I have plenty of thread and needles. I did order a bunch of my favorite applique thread recently so as long as I can order stuff, I'm okay. the computer gives me all I need so I'm doing fine.

If I were content making only scrappy quilts, I could go on making tops for many years. I don't have much fabric that is any bigger than a half yard. I have mostly fat quarters that were given to me by a friend and scrap pieces left over from my quilts. But I do enjoy searching for coordinating fabrics. I guess I'd run out of my favorite piecing thread, Aurifil, before too long. I have many old spools of thread, but I just really don't want to use them. I buy batting by the roll, but I'm almost finished with the one I have, so that would need to be replenished soon too.

Sounds like everyone buys batting by the roll. I just did that very thing for the first time and probably the last time. LOL! I have lots of thread, some of Connecting Threads collections. Needles, rulers all good. And fabric I will never run out of especially for scrap quilts. While making the masks these past weeks, I have gone through my bins and found pieces that I don't remember buying. And some that I wondered why I bought.

If I am making a special quilt such as DGDs’ wedding quilt, then I will shop for new fabric. I do use flannel for the chemo quilt backings so I do have to shop for that. Connecting threads used to have some that I liked but they have dropped that from their inventory.

The only other fabric I buy when I see it on sale is neutrals, such as WOW. Scrappies often need a good amount of a light to let the colours shine.

And like Sharon, I need a body that will let me sew for longer than an hour or two before it gives up.

See, I knew we were all hoarders! Sometimes I open my sewing room closet and feel overwhelmed at all the stuff in there, wondering how I will ever use it all. But it doesn’t keep me from buying more when I’m in the mood.

I have so much thread and fabric I could likely go a year and make 30 quilts with what I have in my sewing room....looking at my stash is a real challenge to get me to cut it down, lol. Thanks for the incentive, Donna! I am going to start using this time at home to really plan more with what I have.

I think having lots of fabric causes us to live longer because we think we have to sew it all up before we check out.
