dimensions should be posted on the cabinet under specifications.

do you need a specific width? why not look for a regular pantry cabinet? maybe something 18" ? That's what I have on mine.

try craiglist too. people are always selling cabinets, kitchens cabinets or partial cabs on there.

I'm using Ikea kitchen cabinets for a wall of storage and I'd like one cabinet to be used as a broom closet. I'm not worried about the width, it's the height that I'm not sure will fit a broom because I was told there's a fixed shelf at a certain height that can't be moved. I can't easily get to a showroom to check it out myself before ordering.

The fixed shelf gets installed by you- just skip it. The problem will be without the fixed shelf the cabinet will want to bow or spread under its own weight. If the cabinet is flanked by other cabinets or a wall this won’t be an issue- they will hold the cabinet in place. If the cabinet is freestanding it will not work.

The reason they can’t tell you where the shelf is is because it’s different based on the configuration you buy. If you buy the 90” cabinet with a 60” lower door and 30” upper door the tall area is a little less than 60”

Install the fixed shelf higher in the cabinet to accommodate your broom. If you have a run of these cabinets you will be screwing them together for stability anyways.

I'll add here that while the idea of removing or moving the fixed shelf will work as long as the cabined is supported on both sides, it is not really necessary. We just completed our kitchen. Pantries were two 24"x90" high with drawers for food and one 15"x90" high as a broom closet. The default location for the fixed shelf is 60" which is plenty of height in my experience for mops/brooms.

The 60" door is the tallest that Ikea makes, so while you could move the shelf up it necessary, you won't have the shelf providing the split between the 60" door and the 30" door above it.

With the shelf installed, the bottom space is 60" high. It's tall enough to use for a broom closet, and Ikea makes an insert for it for that purpose. That's what we are doing.

a person could also cut out the center of that shelf. If you left about 3" all the way around, you could set cleaning supplies on it. Add an apron under it and mount clips to hold the brooms upright.

You could use Ikea's Utrusta cleaning closet insert. Holds cleaning supplies, buckets etc on one side, hang brooms and mops on the other.

In Ikea's pic, the shelf divider (stabilizer) sits above the pullout organizer.

I want to do the exact same thing. I need a broom/vacuum closet. It isn't the broom that is the biggest issue as that could be hung on the door. It is the upright vacuum which ours measures 45" high. If the shelf is at 60" then that would work. But the only 90" cabinet that I found on IKEA appears that the stabilizing self is in the middle. If that shelf can be moved up it would work.

We do plan to place a 36" wide base cabinet next to it. The other side is a wall.
