How much is a "splurge" in a "splurge vs save" article?

I notice on many home renovation sites they have a splurge vs save categories for bathroom renovations. I noticed that they list plumbing fixtures as a "splurge". Now what do they mean by splurge? I'm considering getting Moen Brantford fixtures ($150 for a faucet) but I'm concerned that those are too cheap and I should be getting Kohler Devonshire ($250) or even Kohler Bancroft ($500). Or are they just trying to say don't buy the $50 bargain faucet that is partially plastic? I'm trying to be smart about how I'm spending my money but whenever I do sell my house, I don't want people to think the bathroom looks/feels cheap. I know both Moen and Kohler have good reputations and are both considered to be reliable.
