Cool gray paint with wood trim - again

Preparing my house for sale. I was going with BM Abalone for a lot of my areas/rooms, but am reconsidering. The first floor has pine trim (amber). I'm not loving its look w/Abalone. The paint tone changes based on light/time of day. When it goes blue/violet, it really clashes to me, and helps date the wood. The entire first floor has this trim (baseboards, windows - maple floors too).

The 3rd pic is a Zillow example that made me go "ugh" - I don't want people to go "ugh", so thinking something warmer would work better on my first floor.

Note I went with green/gray on my kitchen. My first floor is pretty open, all colors can be seen.

So I'm going to pick up a sample of SW Shiitake, and see how I feel about it. I just don't like how the Abalone looks with my wood trim - I think the pictures downplay the appearance. I just want a nice neutral that makes the house look pleasing - and the blues/violets in the Abalone with the wood trim makes me go "blech". The only downside if I change color is all the cutting in that has to happen again (and the 8 gallons of Abalone I bought!). But if it makes the house more appealing to the masses, it's worth a the cost.

Do you know what color of white is on the trim/doors?

Thanks buddyrose. I absolutely love my silver fox. I'd paint that color again in an instant. Its got enough brown in it to make it neutral but enough gray so it doesn't look like beige. Abalone is a nice compliment but it would be too lilac to do as the main color. I use it the hallway as a neutral transition to the gray and other colors and it works for that. I made the mistake of using stardust and hated it. Its a really chocolaty brown. Looks nothing like it did on the chip. I had to paint over it. The thing about this particular shade is that they really aren't all that similar even though they right next to each other on the paint chip.

Wahoo ... We received notification that our short sale offer has been approved! Now the fun begins... trying to figure out what paint colors, as the entire interior needs to be painted. The townhouse is about 1700sf, built in mid-1990's and has solid wood trim and solid doors throughout. This would have been a big upgrade when it was built and we love the wood, but the color is "honey". The wood floors are also the same natural honey color too. Our plans right now are to paint the main floor a soft gray ... but I wonder how this will look. Could anyone please share photos of their natural wood trims and gray wall colors! I just cannot visualize. We are so excited that after waiting months to hear from the bank, that we are finally moving forward! Thanks Bonnie

With that beautiful acacia floor with its distinctive grain I too would vote for something without too bold a competing pattern. A classic soapstone, or a “mist” (Virginia, Silver etc) honed granite or a soft white marble with gray - any of those would look beautiful. I suspect as geologists that you both really “see” stones for what they are as opposed to the general public’s perception of counters as being simply a field of color and pattern. But a deeper knowledge or appreciation of the material itself is not your friend when getting everything to pair well. Ironically. I don’t find Houzz easy to search, but you might see what you can locate pictures of kitchens with acacia floors as your starting point. I would focus on the choices of counters used first, then cabinet color, and finally backsplash. Re the marrying cool tones to warm ones there shades that are neutral but a paint color still will not tie everything together. You can used the same stone for the counter and backsplash though, which eliminates one matching conundrum. Final thought, don’t use quartz - you are geologists - you of all folk should have real stone.

On the first two pictures (with the wood trim), the doors are Behr Bright White Semi-Gloss - so just plain old white. The 3rd picture with all the white trim is not my house - just one I saw on Zillow while shopping that made me go "ugh". BUT - I do see your point - the white itself might be helping the gray to look "ugh".

Regardless - there is a good chance I might be painting the inside of my garage Abalone - and my entry/stair area in Shiitake ;)

@Lori A. Sawaya: Ah, kudos for looking at my other posts! I guess that could be an option.I forget how hard paint is in between the times that I paint. I'm trying to avoid too many colors, stay away from anything fashion, just nice neutral tones that make the house "pop". But all my woodtones are making cool neutrals difficult. Bringing a "green" (as light as Jogging Path is) from the kitchen into the entry/foyer/stairs/dining makes me a little nervous. The kitchen itself has very limited walls with this color on it. Not sure I'm comfortable bringing it into the other 1st floor areas...
