That's a nice dresser & like everybody else has advised, you don't want to mess it up with a DIY finish, and I say that because it looks to me like this isn't a veneer at all but an old faux finish, which have been around for as long as there have been paint & glaze. The clue is the large pale areas on the middle drawer, which look like places where somebody, in an attempt not to make every drawer identical--which consistency of handsome grain is, after all, the main point in using veneers rather than solid wood--has gone the other way & removed way more of the top glaze than they should have. But those evidences of hand work--maybe amateur work--are part of what make this piece interesting. At any rate, it's cool. Don't mess with it. Regards, Magnaverde.

Lukki - Sorry I wrote my last post in a hurry and should have just waited until I had a few more min. I like a mix of stained and painted pieces in a kid room. We'll probably eventually buy a headboard second hand and it's usually easier, and gives more options, to paint so I figure the headboard will later be painted. I plan to add art and toys and all that kid stuff. Actually DS1's room has too many painted pieces for my preference, but I don't have the energy to strip any of the furniture right now so it is what it is. And it looks fine for now. A while back I was going to strip the night stand in that room, but it will have to wait at least until spring. I'm still not feeling super, unfortunately. Tibb - You're right about holes and dowel rods. A lot of the fun hardware tends to be knobs though and not pulls. I'll have to look around more. I also don't want to spend a fortune on them. I'd have to find something that really is captivating to me. Hmmm... maybe some type of nautical pull. Not seeing much so far that aren't knobs. Rope pull from Anthro. Iron and jute, 3" from Anthro. Wrap some pulls. Some other DIY handles. Showing with stained wood. Rugged rope with tied knots. I think this would be hard to do. I think it would be fun to find a fish, lobster, or whale pulls. So far the few I'm seeing look serious and like they belong in a lake house. What about painted pulls? Red, blue, or white? Pumpin out ideas... colored pulls wrapped in twine.

Lots of ways to go with blue, gray, or light/dark furniture and either muted colors or bright accents. It'll all depend on your style preference, but there are great options when you search "gray floors" and specify living room.

I am looking at this bed (looks different colors but it’s cream) and included are pictures of the color flooring previous owners installed, which are staying. Wall color will be selected after rug to coordinate and have no bedding/linens yet. I would like blues and creams mixed with another color. Not sure on if to go with something textured, busy/no busy pattern, style etc. Any guidance is appreciated.
