Can I paint this fireplace white? It’s in a room with a lot of wood.

wall color help for white cabinets, blue backsplash, lots of wood
Comments (12)I totally agree with looking at the "whites" of various paint manufacturers. Most of them are really not white. You could color match to the tile, then have it made half or quarter strength. I could see a yellow -- I am thinking of a more muted yellow, something along the lines yellow split peas (which, come to think of it, I haven't seen in the grocery for a long time) so it doesn't compete with the pop of the tiles. I wouldn't go with glossy paint for the same reason. There is a house in my neighborhood that is painted a similar shade of blue, with medium-light green shutters and trim. It looks fabulous. I wouldn't suggest that strong of a green for your wall but greenish undertones in all of your paint choice would probably work very well....See MoreGo-to paint colors (non-white) for a space without a lot of light?
Comments (10)Hah! I have tried to have a white room for many years and always get sick of it. Because of the high ceilings and beams this space is very hard to paint so we just stick with what was there when we bought it. I love grey and have BM Smoke Embers in my living room in my other house but that room gets a ton of light and the grey looks very elegant. This space is a lot more rustic and I think a grey might be gloomy unless it was the perfect shade. We painted two rooms in yellows...the laundry and one of the bedrooms..in this same house and they really came to life. I might need something warm....See MoreDo I paint my fireplace white or to match the walls?
Comments (2)Hi @genevieveo - cute living room! I think if your goal is to make the fireplace more of a focal point, I would go with white to pop against the accent wall. A big however, though! If the adjacent door remains white, you'll have two "L" shapes of color, white with the door and fireplace, dark on the remainder of the wall. I would paint the door and its trim to match the accent color you're planning for the wall. You don't need to change the rest of the room trim, just the door. the couple of spots where the trim meets at the floor should be inconspicuous. Best of luck! - Doug...See MoreWhat shade of white should I paint the living room?
Comments (5)I just completed white washing my fireplace with milk paint. The only wood I had was the fireplace mantel with fireplace running to the 8 foot ceiling. The fireplace was as you described (colors). I was very pleased with the outcome. The milk paint can be added, adjusting the water ratio to the milk paint until you are pleased with the outcome. My fireplace took on a whole new dimension. I have very little natural light in my livingroom and used Ben Moore Swiss Coffee and white paint for ceiling. The combo brightened up the area tremendously....See MoreG William Design
