Do I paint my fireplace white or to match the walls?

Hi all,

I'm about to paint my fireplace, replace the mantle, and paint the background wall. The surrounding walls are currently a pale grey/white color, Calm by Benjamin Moore, and I'd like to find a contrasting complimentary dark grey color that will look good as an accent wall where the fireplace is. I will be replacing the mantle with a simple wood floating mantle that will be 6" thick (currently the mantle is 3" thick). My home is an open concept cape and the front of the house is east-facing so gets a LOT of daytime sunlight.

I like the idea of an accent wall because I feel it will make the room feel larger but also more intimate and will make the fireplace more of a focal point. The curtains may be changed but currently they're a teal blue velvet. Question is, do I paint the fireplace white or to match the new color of the walls?
