Metal Roof for 2 Floor East Facing New Construction in South Florida

Amit Ramani

I am building a 3400 sq.ft (under air) new construction residence in South Florida (specifically Palm Beach). The lot faces east.

My GC has suggested to go with a Metal Roof (Standing Seam) in place of Concrete Tile roof.

He also claims it is much less maintenance in case of hurricane damage.

I like the roof look, but wanted to check with the experts here about the advantages/disadvantages.

From what I know so far:

1. I plan to install Solar Roof Panels eventually. I have heard it is much easier to do this on metal roof vs. tile/shingle.

2. The cellular/mobile phone coverage seems to take a hit with metal roofs. That said, I have many large windows(all impact) on all sides of the house. How do you deal with the degraded cellular coverage?

3. Cost. Any rough guesses on how much more the metal roof will cost vs concrete tile.

Any other thoughts and ideas, please post them here. I appreciate it.

Thanks
