Same here. I'm in Northwest Illinois and we've had so much rain. They are forecasting more rain for the next 4 days. Major bummer. We live near a corn field and both the fields and our garden are drenched. My plants don't seem to have the symptoms that yours do, but I'm wondering if you cut them, maybe this will rejuvenate them. I have noticed that because of the two day polar vortex we had in January, some of my roses suffered a lot of dieback. Well, we can't control mother nature, so we just have to live it. :-)

I've noticed a bit of yellowing on leaves of some perennials, but fortunately nothing too bad. I've been leaving out my annuals and veggies on the patio waiting to be planted, and they are starting to show signs of stress from being water-logged. Hopefully when I get them all planted by next weekend they'll perk up. My Caryopteris' are showing no signs of life yet, and they are a couple years old, probably due to the cool, cloudy May we've had. I'm also a bit concerned about a B&B'd dogwood tree I planted at the beginning of the month -- it is starting to leaf out, but just barely. Same with my fruit trees (which are not new). So yea -- I'd say the weather is definitely affecting some things, but other things that like the wetness are growing like crazy -- the Trollius are lovin' it.

That is a lot of rain. I've never experienced that in my garden. We are usually on the other side of that, with not enough rain. Here in the Northeast, we've been watching the news about the middle of the country, I don't know how you stand it. You've had horrible weather the past few months. And all that rain. We have gotten more than usual, but not to that degree. It seems to dissipate somewhat before it reaches us. I'm wondering if you are going to dry out any time soon. I thought you also expect dry weather in the summer, usually.

So, I have no suggestions other than, if you have potted plants waiting to go in the ground, maybe you can pull them in the house and put them in a window when it's raining. If there is a particular bed that is soaked, maybe you can put a tarp or plastic over it when it rains and weigh it down with bricks to keep it a little dryer until it stops raining. That's all I can think of. You have my sympathies! I hope you get some dry sunny weather soon!

Prairiemoon, you are spot on about the usual weather in the Midwest, we are usually praying for rain in August. Another “problem “ here, it’s hard to keep up with mowing, the grass is really happy this year. My small dogs aren’t fond of the taller grass.
