Design wise - does it bother you to mismatched appliance brands
Comments (40)On the Jenn Air fridge someone asked about...I don't think it cools as evenly as my old Kitchen-Aid did. We bought a counter-depth french-door/bottom freezer as it's just the 2 of us and we have another 'beer/overflow' fridge in another room. I also don't think the icemaker is very big for the amount of room it occupies. Other than those 2 things, it is ok. A must-have for me is ice/water in the door. I also miss the crushed ice dispenser the KA had. I just get ice cubes with this one. More mfg are offering the ice/water dispensers now in counter-depth so maybe it's not such a problem these days but even just 2 years ago the options were limited....See MoreKitchen Help: mismatched appliance brands acceptable?
Comments (21)Sophie, It's far too late at this point to do any reworking. Given the constraints of what the builder includes as options and the space we were working with I am very happy with the layout as is. I would have asked for advice if I'd been concerned about our choices but for me everything works. I suppose I shouldn't have posted a picture of the layout as it is essentially asking for knit picky comments from experts but I'm excited for my kitchen and based on my experiences with the kitchen I've had for the past 10 years, I think this layout and the fridge size is right for us. Moreover, we have 10 foot ceilings and we've extended into the breakfast area, the kitchen is 21 feet long, I don't think the fridge will seem too big and even if it does I don't really care....See Morewhite shaker cabinets, wood beam accents, white quartz, appliances?
Comments (27)I would remove from the equation the idea of white appliances having an effect on resale. No one says "I love the house, but forget it, it has a white range!" What is key to this whole discussion and has not been addressed is how much are you willing to spend on your appliances. The solution to your dilemma would be to panel the dishwasher and the fridge, and the fridge must be a fully-integrated style to pull this off. This will be very expensive. For the range, there are some lovely white ranges out there by Bertazzoni, Bluestar, Smeg, Miele, Lacanche for example, but those tend to be much more expensive than the old-style type of white range. There was a recent thread where someone posted about a white Kitchenaid range that looked fresh and not old-style, and was not priced as high as the other names I've mentioned, so look into that. I have a panelled DW, stainless fridge, white range, and stainless hood. I love it. The range is so easy to clean compared to a stainless range. The pairing of the white range with the stainless hood looks clean and fresh. The DW panelling does not show water drips the way stainless does. I was not willing to pay the $9000+ for an integrated fridge, so I am fine with my stainless one. (I am "lusting" a little for the white Miele fridge that Miller pictured above). One last note - your mention of the wood beams worries me. I know it's not what you asked, but adding wood beams has the potential to look very nice or to look artificial, "faux". A lot depends on your ceiling height. Make sure you have thought this through....See MoreMismatched appliances, yes or no?
Comments (8)They left a lip on the counter top instead of finishing it flush with the cabinet wall going to the outside wall.. Just place a slim piece of board trim there and paint it white to close up the opening... No, don't matchy the refrigerator to the other appliances. Chances are tenants will have their own in this size home, that they want to use. If they don't mention it, don't point it out. It's not visible to the living area, with the wall there. Doors? above the frig? Same thing, either they will stuff things up there, or just add a piece of thin board trim above the frig, and gently nail it up with finishing nails. The next frig may be taller? so if it bothers someone, you can close it up with the least expense possible. OR, if you can find a basket or 2 about that height/ even 1/2 the depth, just push them up there. A couple of black? or white baskets atop the frig can be used for a variety of misc. items and than you don't need a carpenter at all. Do go and get some round pulls for the doors and drawers. If they have a guard with them so much the better. You won't believe the damage that can happen to doors and drawers with out pulls...you don't want to have to clean that much. These are reasonable...https://www.shoplibertyhardware.com/Liberty-Hardware/Special-Value/lip61200sca-ms.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw_vfcBRDJARIsAJafEnGz6MN-ZdARl-QXV1aEkSOzkM812QuzxNsfMHofD8g3Bw4eC990MoYaAlEwEALw_wcB They are closed on the end so they won't do much damage to anyone...mount them horizontal on the drawers and vertical on the doors....See Moreljptwt7
