What to Fill Space between tile and tub ???
Comments (1)For ¼" -1/3" depth you can use silicon it will do the work, but I am recommended To use the TFC 100 itÂs come in six deferent colors and itÂs really strong, weather proof, and you use like regular silicone http://www.flooringsupplyshop.com/setting-materials-n-more-83/waterproofing-membranes-134/tfc-100-polyurethane-sealants-10-oz-limestone-1263.html...See MoreTub: Regretting choice and ideal not avail -help me off ledge!
Comments (9)I checked over here to see if divotdiva had posted anything about her new tub. I want one so bad, but my remodel has been delayed and may not happen until fall or even next year. When we do finally get to do ours, I may just line them up and have the upstairs baths redone too. I'd be happy to have that tub for one of them. Do you know Jason is the original Jacuzzi family? They sold the name and after a while got back into the trade with a new line -- Jason, for JAcuzzi and SON. They are not as well known a name, but they are good quality. The only concern I would have is the tub height, but that allows a decent bath where so many tubs are basically shower basins. Your guests can actually use the tub as a tub and not feel like they are in a kiddie pool brought indoors. Most of the things we have in our house have tradeoffs -- OMG, my ovens doesn't have a built-in rotisserie! Just kidding to make a point -- our grill has a rotisserie and I really couldn't see me needing one in the oven, but I still stopped and thought about it when we were making selections and it was the first thing that came to mind here. . Grab bars are a good idea, as is the curved shower curtain rod, regardless of the tub you use. If the step turns out to be a bit much, you might put a stool next to the tub so they can sit, scoot and swing their legs over. You might have to test a couple of step, stool or other ideas, but you will find a way. Worst case, would it really be so awful if your parents used your shower and you got to soak in the air tub? Yeah, definitely a First World problem, but you got a great deal on a very good tub you and your guests should be happy to have....See MoreIs it necessary to caulk between wall tile & tub and tub & floor?
Comments (16)The vertical wall seams crack more readily because the house shifts and moves. Ive tried grouting only and going back to caulk with sanded grout caulk or silicon only after a crack develops, hoping in some cases it will not. Sometimes it does not crack. Some contractors caulk all seams as a matter of course, no callbacks, safer. I liked the idea of sanded grout caulk to match your grout color It has not held up for me in wet conditions, such as the top of the bathtub where the wall tile starts, etc. , definitely not along the shower floor where the wall tile starts. It has held up in other areas though, and looks nicer when it all ties in. I agree, mildew on silicon is unsightly. Every bathroom has different conditions, including ventilation, moisture, etc. Some people have to clean out and recaulk the silicon every year or two. Whether its allegedly mildewproof silicon or not....See MoreGrout around tub from years ago; has mold, crack, & needs repair.
Comments (5)If the grout joint has a consistent height around the tub of 3/4", and alternative to a huge caulk joint could be to use something like a tile trim or liner piece to fill most of the gap. There are certainly restrictions going that route, ie, there might not be a proper material in the back of the gap to bond the liner to. If you do go the "all caulk route", look at backer rod as millworkman suggested. Backer rod is a foam rope that comes in different diameters. Backer rod gets stuffed into the gap to act as a filler for the deepest part of the gap. It greatly improves the performance of caulks when they are used in large- or deep-gap situations, as a large slug of caulk. If you filled a large gap with a single large slug of caulk, as the caulk cures and shrinks, internal shrinkage can cause the caulk to pull away from the edges, or even crack in the middle of the joint. Backer rod allows a Thicker depth of caulk at the edges where you need adhesion, and a thinner depth of caulk in the middle of the joint where you need flexibility....See Morelexi1228
