I need help landscaping the front of my house. Removed low lying bushs
Comments (10)I can't tell what the existing brick is doing--do you want to install rocks there? I can't help with that. But on the boxwoods--I thinks it would look nice to continue them under the window to the right. Remember that there are several different species and cultivars of boxwoods. Take a piece from yours with you to see if you can find matching ones. Do you know what the deciduous shrubs under the windows are? Just in case they are worth keeping? If you can continue the boxwoods and put your burning bushes in front of them, then I would want a low evergreen border. I agree on taking out the junipers. Where are you? location and zone will help with suggestions....See MorePlease help with Front Lanscaping Design
Comments (21)If you intend to walk on the stepping stones, I would remove the small stones at the edge of the pavement. I would trip on them. Be sure the pavers are snug into the gravel -- bury them part way, and make sure they are fully supported, stable, and level, not rocking when stepped on, otherwise they will crack. (Ask me how I know!) The black mulch is your friend, showing off the plants and feeding the soil at the same time, helping to retain moisture. The plants will fill in over time. If they don't, add more. A dwarf evergreen or larger flowering bush would look nice next to the landing just beyond the steps. Nothing too big, maybe 3 ft. tall and wide. It would help give some presence to your bed. It could be something temporary like a Shasta daisy, or a more permanent evergreen. I sort of get why the stakes and cloth are there to retain the gravel, but it will look better disguised with more of your rocks, or larger plants sort of covering it. Maybe the mulch will do it....See MoreNeed help to design my small front yard!
Comments (32)GG, how are you going to adapt the stream portion abutting the property line to that configuration, without turning it into a planted garden? (Which would be OK as in your pictures, but that would grow it considerably wider, extending into the lawn portion of the yard.) Still, the stream has a perfected edge, whether a hard material, edged grass or artfully placed larger rocks, which I have no objections to, and probably a preference for, but don't want to take the time to draw those!...See MoreFront of house help. Comments (2)I assume by modern you mean more up to date. Not necessarily modern style like sharp corners, colder tones.... I love what you did and I think adding black trim would be amazing. Remove the landscape. You don’t need much by the porch. You need some by the right side of the house and for that I’d do something neat and simple. Two rows of boxwoods? I would for sure update the walkway. Maybe the same whitewash brick in a herringbone pattern. And can’t wait to see the new shutters. This is such an awesome home!! Love it. Love what you did. Looks amazing and will look even better!!...See MoreUser
