Wherever you have curving bed outlines place plants within them so that their arrangement is also in the informal manner that has been pre-determined by the bed design. So for instance that straight line of conifers does not relate to the curving of the bed on the one side - it should be coordinated with that instead of the straightness of the paving. Also if these are 'Smaragd' (Emerald) arborvitaes they will grow very much larger in time than they are now - the ones against the house for instance are going to grow up and collide with the roof overhang. And where plants chosen become a lot taller than a bed is wide at the points within the bed where these are located than an impression of these plants being "too tall" is automatically generated.

Also the highly floricultural looking cosmos plants laid out in a rectangular pattern don't really go with the tone established by the paving and the rock. Which instead is more like something one might see in a Japanese-inspired scheme or maybe a desert garden etc.

For specific plant selection recommendations indicate your geographic location.

The narrow pinch point between the two areas is going to be hard work maintenance wise.

The beds are designed to block and squeeze the entrance. The taller anything you plant in them, the worse it will be. I would return to the drawing board. Can't show you from the photos you've supplied so far. Need a photo of whole front yard, from not too far away, where camera is aligned with front door.

Here are better pictures as requested to help with designing the area. I agree about it will become messy and too much maintenance and thats why i need help with it. First time home owner and still learning. Thanks again for all the help

That picture is half what is needed. Return to the same spot where it was take and add another photo that show what is at the right. (Don't take it from another spot or the pictures will not fit together.) Tomorrow is fine. Also, take another picture from a distance (across the street) showing the whole front yard in a single picture.

The photos are not taken as how Yard asked, although the last two may work if enlarged sufficiently.

I'd get rid of the dwarf Alberta spruce. If you live in area where palms will grow well, like the one to the left, it is likely to be too dry and too hot for the spruce and they will become spider mite magnets. Providing your geographic location will generate better input for plant selection.

I live in zone 9. The one to the left Mugo Pine, a lot of spiders in our area

I went today to lowe’s and asked someone to help me and they didn’t know the name of plants. Can you pleaseee help me with the names.

Try a real plant nursery/garden center rather than a home improvement store that just carries a few, very basic plants and generally has no one on staff that knows anything about them. Better selection, better quality and usually a staff that knows a bit more what they are dealing with....sometimes a lot more!!

The plants do not have to be the exact same plants as shown in the mock up........just ones that offer a similar growth habit and coloring, if that's what you like. It is more the mature size and habit that is important and the suitability to your specific growing conditions. Pretty much any nurseryperson (not a Lowes' employee!!) can help you with that.

Lordy!! This is where the internet is your friend. In less than 60 seconds, I found several - Fair Oaks Boulevard Nursery, Talini's Nursery, the Plant Foundry Nursery and Store, Village Nursery, Greenfire Nursery, Big Oak Nursery, Green Acres Nursery, El Rancho Nursery............probaby a bunch more in the Stockton area.

As my third grade teacher drilled into me a zillion years ago, there is no help like the help that helps one help themselves :-)

I've made the point that I would not be enclosing the walk to the front door with plants, or even a bed. At right of the walk, next to garage, it's OK because the garage itself is the enclosing backdrop, and plants are the transition to "floor." Small plants in that strip would work. On the outside of the walk, however, it is big negative, IMO. You have this interesting cutout in the paving where the walk makes a turn. I wouldn't want something tall there as it still would obstruct the prime view of the entrance path. But since that cutout exists, a rock outcropping made of the largest rocks, surrounded by sod could be an interesting feature that wasn't too intrusive. Some very low cushioned shape plants could also work as an alternative solution.

I would frame the bay window with a low uniform hedge ... probably an evergreen shrub or groundcover.

One of the most troubling features that exists, IMO, is the dry stream. I believe its shape needs reworking and refining. The circular section at the palm is the most important part and needs to be enlarged, and a perfect circle. The edge of the whole stream cannot be jagged and bumpy, which it is now. This gives a messy, busy appearance. I would be inclined to make a more perfect edge out of a more uniform material, such as Belgian block, where the stream meets the lawn, and most importantly, have the edge NOT be raised up above the lawn. Basically, it would be a mowing strip. Then, arrange the stones within the stream to appear more natural ... a scattering of boulders with some concentrations of them. To have the entire edges lined with medium large rocks does not look look like it is trying to appear natural. (Don't take my picture as an example of rock arrangement. That's something too time consuming to draw out. You just have to work it out on site. However, the overall shape in the picture is an example of a better shape. And flaring it slightly in a subtle way where it meets the city walk makes a better connection in my view.)

Perhaps if you want to keep those little conifer trees move them into a line across the front of the yard instead? Or maybe into that small side bit to help distinguish the space between you and your neighbor? It sounds like from advice it might not be wisest to keep them but it would be a shame just to pitch them if you can help it.

And yeah, usually the big box stores.. while sometimes they can be a good deal for buying actual plants and sometimes not. Quite often the folks that are hired to tend the garden center are just hired to tend- not necessarily to know anything about the plants themselves. Sometimes you will luck out and someone who likes gardening/plants and knows a bit more will be working in those places.

I live in a way more midwest/different zone than you.. but the pink stuff looks like a seedum, perhaps a Pink Stonecrop? The blue flowers look like Scabiosa maybe? The bluish grassy stuff just looks like grassy stuff to me, heh- I'm terrible with grasses. But the more upright spikey stuff in the background reminds me of Yucca. A lot more yellowy-green than the blue stuff that grows around here, but similar habit. It is kind of hard to guess from the stock photos for the mock up what they are.

And here is where the professionals collide :-)) I disagree completely on how the dry stream bed should look!! They should look like a natural stream.....just without water. Never straight, precise edges and never with a mow strip. And never in a straight line, but a slightly meandering path. I agree the stream bed could use some work, but it should look more like this:

GG, how are you going to adapt the stream portion abutting the property line to that configuration, without turning it into a planted garden? (Which would be OK as in your pictures, but that would grow it considerably wider, extending into the lawn portion of the yard.) Still, the stream has a perfected edge, whether a hard material, edged grass or artfully placed larger rocks, which I have no objections to, and probably a preference for, but don't want to take the time to draw those!

here are some ideas using: palm, sunshine Ligustrum, kangaroo paws, lantana, autumn joy sedum, Tropicana canna, dusty miller& poncirus flying dragon...

Dig Doug In the first picture in the entrance you put something green and on the second picture you put tropicana canna. Should i go with the tropicana or the green one. Also the circled one’s i don’t know the name of them. I went today and bought most of the things that i knew them. Should i put fabric or mulch under the rocks?

From a practical point of view I can't help thinking the missing squares of paving in a direct line between the street and the front door will prove very annoying. A visitor on foot coming from the street has to walk around the flower bed which acts as an obstruction. I bet they'll just walk across the lawn. Or if arriving by car they will have to avoid stepping in the flower bed if parked up near the garage doors. I'd leave out the central bed altogether.

The plants you circled are gold sword yucca, porcupine maiden grass, liitle bluestem "the blues" & scabiosa. I would use canna instead of porcupine grass.

I would use Phormium or Poncirus instead of Little Bluestem.

Agree with Floral. And putting rocks with lawn inside the cutout would make it a mowing nuisance. As would having a bunch of other angles around the edge of the lawn, which would also give it a visually unattractive outline, make it look like the lawn is leftover space being filled with grass. Instead of a centerpiece feature designed to have an attractive - preferably flowing and cohesive, except in a formal layout (which this is not) - shape.
