Kitchen island waterfall/countertops
Comments (31)If you like the Graceful Gray kitchen remodel image then take your cues from that with edge profile and countertop selection. The advantage of doing a solid perimeter is that you could have a bit more flexibility with backsplash options. But, if you will stick with one countertop selection throughout then I like Image #3 that Beth posted for both countertop and backsplash. If you are all about resale time is money and use these inspiration photos as working tools....See MoreWriting/Printing Visible on Quartz Island Waterfall at Gap at Range
Comments (7)"I think the fabricator should have known to remove this before installing..." Correct. "Can this be buffed out or removed with acetone without removing the quartz?" Yes. Acetone will remove the printing. Careful though, it's flamable and may remove your cabinet finish. "Am I overreacting?" No. "Second, there is a gap between my range and the counters that gets bigger towards the back of the range. It's much more visible than in this picture. The range wasn't installed when the fabricator measured. The contractor said the wall probably wasn't flush. Shouldn't the fabricator measure the actual angles rather than assume everything is exactly 90 degrees? Or am I overreacting and there is an easy fix?" Range cutouts are made perpendicular to the rear wall and paralel to each other, I don't care what the cabinets are doing. He probably templated to out-of-plane cabinets. The range being installed or not is irrelevant, however, it's always best for appliances to be on site from a fabricator's perspective. As to how easy the fix, that depends upon your layout. The tops have to come more closely together so they can be recut and polished on the appliance ends. Post a dimensioned drawing please. Place a straightedge on the rear wall, place a framing square against it, then move the framing square to the appliance edges. That'll tell you what's off. Check the miter joint on the waterfall at the ink line for ink contamination please. That ink should have been removed before a blade ever kissed that slab....See MoreQuartz waterfall edge cracking/separating, guidance.
Comments (15)@Fori. Sorry, prob not coming across well for you. This was the below events. 1 - The countertop installers installed the countertops. 2 - We noticed that they were not straight, slightly off. 3 - The kitchen re modeler company adjusted them to make them straight. 4 - The left side developed the same issue about 2 weeks later. 5 - The countertop company came onsite and stated cracked because of the kitchen company moving it incorrectly but they still fixed it. 6 - Fast forward about 7 months or so the other side is now damaged. The countertop company will not resolve the issue since they stated it was because of the kitchen company. The kitchen company is stating that if it was straight in the first place they would not had to move it. At this point, we just want it fixed, I do not know this type of work, if you want me to rebuild a engine on a car, lets do it but I do not have any knowledge here LOL. I am just looking for guidance on how to proceed, if that is, we have to fix it, we should press the kitchen or countertop company, get a new company in to resolve etc. I do not know if it need additional reinforcements, i differed to the contractors at the time to make the call....See More3cm quartz or 2cm quartz for island with waterfall, mitered edge?
Comments (17)Hi DeWayne, Thanks for the comment. We will be talking to the fabricator and see what we need -- I have seen online pictures of using steel brackets. The GC said some people also use a layer of plywood on top of the base cabinets, the plywood would be covering the top of the base cabinets, and also extends out, e.g. if the overhang is 12'', the plywood would extend out 10'' or something like that. They said that the thickness of the plywood would depend on the thickness and type of stone....See MoreUser
