Colette Climber in pots (for now)?

I have two Colette climbers that I want to eventually plant on either side of my fence (Per recommendation from you lovely antique rose lovers). I just got them in and they are small liner plants so I’m thinking I may need them to do quite a bit of growing before I stick them in the ground. Plus I’ve got sunflowers and lots of cut flowers growing in that area this year just as a test so there really is no room for these beauties just yet. What if I put them in pots close to where I want to plant next year? If I planted them in the ground in the fall would that give them enough to acclimate? How do roses do after they’ve been planted in terra-cotta and then in the ground later? Never done this and would love some insight.
