Help me update my 80s Cape Cod Exterior
Comments (5)Hope you're having fun dreaming about your outdoor space! I agree that some simple landscaping could really create an inviting space for the front of this exterior, but fresh paint could make a big difference, too. Pay attention to the color combinations you see on other houses & try playing with color on a website like https://certapro.com/paint-color-ideas/. Or if you're up for something a bit more substantial, you could create a craftsman look over your porch which would give it more substantial curb appeal! I'm not crafty enough to do even a rough rendering of a craftsman look, but accidentally uploaded what I did, so don't judge me! LOL :)...See MoreUpdate my exterior paint from the 80s:)
Comments (13)Hi, yes You are in a big hurry, but don't hurry too much. The house has good visual basics, we only have to free them using right color. I don't know why but I realised that You have to slightly lighten facade and repaint shutters to other not hot color, such as this color used in Deauville, the place of American Film festival is held yearly. This color is very stylish and its difficultm not simple, in its best way. Alternatively, You can use off-gray but for me its dull. Also, the basic columns of the fences are too slim. Use something to thick them as I showed on the sketch. I would leave them in whites and additional fences on stairs are needed. Also the backyard fence can be cleaned, polished and painted with this "Deauville green" color, it also would be very stylish and make a reference to a good taste)) Overall, I woulld use 2 colors + white fences. I even would not touch the bricks (You can wash them and cover with defence liquid), or You can make this other year. You have a lot of work this time so don't try to do ALL simultenously. Hope this works. Good luck!...See MoreNeed help updating exterior of 80s home
Comments (5)I agree that painting your stone is not going to give you an updated look. I would either embrace it or remove it entirely. Your greatest impact is going to be in painting the stucco and trim, front door and garage door. All of those except front the front door should be the same color. I would recommend picking a warm gray or taupe color out of the stone. This will both downplay your stone and bring the house into a more contemporary pallet. For your front door I would consider a dark rich color. As K Lawrence said, go big with the light over the front door; perhaps something with simple lines on a bracket. As far as painting the brick, I like your brick, and would try fixing the color of the stucco and trim first and see what you think. But this is also a house that wouldn't look bad with the stucco, trim, and brick all painted the same color....See MoreHelp with updating exterior of 80's side hall colonial
Comments (24)I am a HUGE fan of Timberlane shutters in PA. The quality of these shutters is extraordinary. I have had them on my house now for 16 years - had them painted by my local painter, still look great. My DD got them about 3 years ago and they now offered the color she wanted in a factory paint job. The rep told me that these same shutters had been on the outside of their building in PA (harsh winters there!) now for 19 years and still looked great. One of the things they offer is copper guards that slip right on top of the shutter. Shutters tend to rot from water getting into the seams where the shutter dowels are held. This prevents that from happening. I think this is part of their success. Yes, they are expensive, but they will last for many decades with little if any maintenance required....See MoreRL Relocation LLC
