Finally ready to post some pics of my new garden (lots of them)
Comments (20)Thanks again, especially for the candytuft ID, they are the stars of the spiral right now but they're starting to go to seed. I have a fountain in the front yard, and although I agree it would look great I wouldn't want to deal with the hassle in that particular spot. Birds love fountains, consequently they need to be cleaned frequently and it always involves splashing a lot of water on the ground and walking around the fountain a bit. Maybe I could get a birdbath and hook it to the irrigation system, but a statue would be easier and require less maintenance. I think I'm a one fountain person, a second is not something I relish taking care of but I wouldn't dream of getting rid of the one I have. Most recently a bench has been added to the garden, I realized that the place where the path brushes the raised bed is the coolest and most comfortable spot to hang out so I mentioned it to the DH and next thing I knew we had a new bench. I love it, it's perfect for sitting and enjoying my new area....See MoreTuesday's walk in the rain...part 1 (pics)
Comments (8)I wish rain for all of you who need it. We were desperate as well. The good thing about our rain here is that the drops are rarely ever big or agressive enough to shred the flowers..... the down side however, is that it can rain for hours and accumulation is still minimal. At this point though, I was happy to take what we got! Julie...See MoreI want glass shower doors - is it possible? (pic)
Comments (30)I'm sure if you shop around, you can find something less costly than the Perrin and Rowe with an exposed shower feed. Here's one from Grohe. From their web page: The Rainshower System adds a sophisticated, distinctively European flair to any stylish bathroom. The system accommodates the use of a Rainshower shower head and a hand shower with an exposed thermostat valve, shower arm, hand shower union, or tub spout with 1/2-inch hose connection. Because the system is surface-mounted, it is ideal for situations where the convenience and luxury of a Rainshower shower head and a hand shower are desired but major renovations are not possible  so not only does it look great, it's practical too. It comes in chrome or satin nickel. Here is a link that might be useful: Rainshower system...See MoreTook plunge on new dining set, now not sure what to do (pics)
Comments (34)You have some cool retro stuff, that's for sure. And I totally get trying to make it all work, that used to be me trying to cram a room and a half worth of furniture "finds" into one not-big-enough space. I'm still not quite over it, but I'm a work in progress! A comment and a suggestion... First, the suggestion. Have Mr. Muscle move out one piece, either the hutch or the hoosier. Outside, another room, or whatever. Clear your room of junk or plastic bins or whatever other clutter you wouldn't have out if you were trying to show your house. See what you think. Sometimes, you really have to come to a parting of the ways with furniture. And no matter how cool or how nicely refinished or how rare, a piece that doesn't work for you and ADD something to your home needs to find another home. I had this in my dining room: It was a Santa Barbara California ebay find for $99 maybe 5 years ago. It never fit my style. It stored my dishes but not nearly as well as the prior buffet I sold to make room for this. And it always bothered me on some level to have something that didn't work with anything else in the room. Last month, I put it on Craigslist and sold it the first day for much more money than I paid for it. My dishes that were inside are sitting in a rubbermaid tub on the floor. Don't care. Glad it's gone. Now, the comment.... While sometimes people came for dinner and exclaimed over my antique buffet, the room just didn't work with that piece. No one said, "What a pretty dining room you have!" When you have too much furniture crammed into a small space, even the good pieces or the nice antiques, actually detract from the home. Better to let a cool piece go to a new home where it can add something good. Red...See MoreEsther-B, Zone 7a
