Have you ever shared a table with strangers??
Comments (14)rhizo, we have one of those in Nashville. It's Monell's. Thank you west! I think I might've first been taken aback (they would've never known) and then, consequently, very curious. I probably would've thought they merely liked me, not wanted the seat. heh I'm more "American" than I knew (self-centered bunch we are!). Color television. huh! That's is really cool. The closest I can say is, I've been in places, often, where celebrites are, but to say I share a table? No. I can say I sat next to a university sports coach on a plane. It's as close as I can get. That, and I was in front of the celebrities' child, daughter inlaw and grandchildren at church. That hardly qualifies. Not even the same row! Your encounter would be almost akin to sitting next to the person who created the iPad (or was that Steve Jobs on his own?)....See MoreStrangers who look like twins (a little slide show)
Comments (18)salgal -- Oh, so sad! Did the girl know why they had to break up? My year-older cousin stopped at our home unexpectedly. We were to attend the wedding of one of my childhood friends. My fiance was invited, and the bride's family invited my cousin when they learned he was in town. At the reception dinner my cousin graciously danced with all the ladies at our table, including me. People assumed my cousin was my fiance: "They make such a lovely couple!" My DH is the middle of his birthmother's five children, and the only one surrendered for adoption. She'd had two boys with her first husband, then my DH with the man she married later (after his divorce), then two girls with him. My DH and his youngest sister are virtual twins -- male and female versions of the same genes. Maybe it's a *good* thing the girls never wanted contact with us!...See MoreMy mom's good deed to a stranger
Comments (23)That was a wonderful thing to do! I also love stories like that. My good dead is kind of funny though. I work in north Tulsa (not a good area) on the way home last week there was a new pickup pulled over and a extremely well dressed guy beside it on the phone. He looked agitated and I slowed down and asked if he needed anything. He said he was out of gas and I offered to drive him to the station to get some. He wanted to fill my truck up for doing it and I told him no, just stop and help someone else who needs it. When he got out he tried to give me his business card and I told him no it was not nessecary but he insisted and left it on the console of my truck. Later when I looked at it I had a good laugh he was the Executive Vice President of one of the largest banks in Tulsa. Melissa...See MoreWould you share your garden with a stranger?
Comments (7)I confess, my instinctive reaction to reading the thread title was a shoulders hunched, "what do you mean, share?!" However, I did have an arrangement a bit like that a few years back. I rented the second floor flat in a house with a garden, and in exchange for a break on the rent, I sorted out and maintained the garden, landlord supplying the materials. I also fed/ temporarily adopted his his cat as he was abroad for work. That arrangement worked well, because I was only planning to live there for a limited time and he was planning to sell the house, so the garden (weedfilled rectangle of 'grass') needed sorting. Because I knew I wasn't staying I was able to not invest myself in the garden, and make it look ok, even if it wasn't how I would like it. In my experience it's not an unusual arrangement, but it's more commonly done with absentee landlords. I think depending on your area, finding someone willing to do garden chores in exchange for reduced rent would actually be pretty easy. The advice to get it written into the rental agreement is a good one. Finding someone to actively share the garden, in a sympatico fashion will be considerably harder - my advice is to go for the former and see if over time the tenant wants to shift into a more sharer type agreement. Gardens have a way of working on people after all. I was into my thirties before gardening awoke like an inherited disease in my blood....See MoreStacie Gilkeson
