??'s about planning a 'Girl's Getaway'
Comments (18)the renting-a-condo-option would be great but I don't want to bring food, prepare meals, etc. Just because you are in a condo with a kitchen doesn't mean you HAVE to cook. The advantage of the condo is the multiple bedrooms & bathrooms. The kitchen can stay unused. I'm not sure if I'm reading this right but it sounds to me that there is not a real concensus on what to do. Just that you want to get away for a day and a night. I hightly recommend that you discuss what you want to do before you do any further research. Even if you have more than one option, such as everyone would be agreeable to either shopping or skiing. Then you can search for places that are condusive to those activities. You don't want to do a bunch of research, settle on the "perfect" place, then find out one of the girls doesn't want to do that particular activity. Since you mentioned your friend was a foodie, that brought to mind a few more possible activities. Cooking Classes. If you can find a one day cooking class on a Saturday in a nearby area, you could tailor your trip around that. Another idea, a food tour. Last time I visited my son in NYC we did two food tours. One was Pizza in Brooklyn - we ate at two different pizza places in Brooklyn and visited several locations where movies were shot. Great tour (all on a bus). The other one was a food walking tour of Greenwich Village. We walked around, visited several interesting restaurants and markets, and got lots of samples. One more idea, wineries in the Finger Lakes in New York. I've never been but plan on doing a two day trip there in March. LOTS of B&Bs in that area as well. I also highly recommend meeting at one of your houses and all driving to your destination in the same car. That makes the getaway start from the minute you leave that house instead of a couple of hours later when you arrive. Is there a reason you are all planning to drive separately?...See MoreYou go girl !
Comments (35)lol, DLM. I was waiting for someone to post that it was sexist to have so much discussion about a world leader's fashion choices. Of course her choices are notable, and I don't feel any particular civic duty to understand her politics. And it was funny that on the same day the story broke about the French prime minister's exorbitant spending on his hairstylist!...See MoreGift Ideas - share yours for girls/women?
Comments (57)It's a challenge to get gift ideas our of our daughters, but every year 2 of them ask for cashmere sweaters. Lord and Taylor Cashmere are now half off. Also scored on Ann Taylor cashmere when it was half off on Cyber Monday. Just bought the wine socks (shown above) online for one DD. So cute, I've seen them in stores. Those were a suggestion from one DD. Another DD just sent me a link to this, which is a video on Face Book: No, I'm not buying it! DH always gives the girls a nice hand-picked selection of wines--6 each. This year 2 DD's who live together are adopting a Sphynx cat next month and we are all very happy to have a new feline member of the family. We are scurrying to buy her the things she will need. Such fun!...See MoreHelp with 12 yr old girl gift. S.A Angel Tree so want it to be good!
Comments (51)Yes, I did briefly (and now even more) worry about overspending on one. At my local S.A tree they have sibling tree cards together. My gal Natie was not a combo. So, Tina, should I just not give the wish list part (camera or skates) but give the rest to my girl? Not give poor little Natie these very cool skates? Boo hoo. Really though, I have spent enough. Or, should I take what I have to the gift Tree volunteers, show them what I've got and ask if it should be split? Edited to add: strangely there were mostly boys left on my local angel tree. I'm wondering if it's because their wish list had some expensive things on it. Not much under $140. I know this because my squeaky butt husband was standing at the tree looking stuff up on his phone and then being embarrassingly loud about it. Or, maybe people just prefer to buy for girls? I did ask the volunteers about the many boys on the tree and she did say that every year they have all been taken up by givers. I'm thinking with all the money in my area of Florida combined with the large percent of snowbird wealthy retired people that angel tree kids around here tend to get overspent on. I do think it's a bit more normal. My husband along with others does a toy drive every year and just off that one place three large truck loads of toys will go out. There are hundreds maybe thousands of such toy drives in my county. Mtn, I have always in the past just given money to different causes at Christmas. This is my first time actually getting a kid, a kid with a name and sizes and wants. It's so very addicting!!! In fact it's even more than that as I'm an empty nester. I don't have any kids to buy for and that bites....See Moremsmeow
