I used Benj. Moore advance to paint a dresser. It can be tinted to your color choice. It ends up with a beautiful finish. I did have a bit of a learning curve to work with it, having only used regular latex paint before. I found it had a short working time (despite the paint store telling it it would be longer--maybe it was just very dry when I was working?) and a long cure time. I'd allow 24 hours between coats and be sure to give that much time before sanding a coat. I'm working on a kitchen remodel in the spring and plan to keep and have repainted a built in Hoosier style cabinet that's original to the house. I plan to ask my contractor to use advance for that job.

do you have a plan?...too many dark cabinets [ wall, in particular] will close it in.....altho I like the java-dark!! consider dark bases with good toe kicks and maybe lighter wall cabinets or glass doors on wall cabinets or very few wall cabinets. Really depends on your plan.... I think If you want a cabinet dense kitchen I'd consider quartersawn oak in a honey or spice finish.....what other furnishings do you have..with the double hung windows I'm seeing a transitional style-is that what you have...blend of furnishings?? It would suit me to have the kitchen finishes an extension of the things in the foreground, rather than a lot of contrast...stay basic....medium stain colors I guess would be my first option. Gpod Luck..small kitchens can be so wonderful...find a few really special touches.

patty_cakes42 You have a great memory! And yes, this project has gone on way too long. I never intended it to, but a giant leak that took out our kitchen and most of our floors pushed me into a remodel. It's been like working a second job and I cannot wait to finish. At the same time, I also hate moving fast without time to think. Your paint choices are gorgeous! The darker trim and plantation shutter color looks so rich next to your walls! Now you're making me think of darker possibilities lol. I think what I may need to do is just put in white baseboards for now and call it a day. When I tire of them in no more than 2 years of my dog and nieces/nephews dirtying them up, I'll repaint a darker color. Then I can think about it for 2 whole years rather than the 4 hours it has been so far.

not black-no contrast with the countertop not containing a lot of brown..kinda defeats the purpose..the wood is brown already either the lightest color of your countertop, it being off white, at least from what I see..that probably works with the wall tile, right? the wall tile, I just see differently..several seem more pink on my monitor(probably the flash from the camera?) while others do look off white or-as you've said-a complementary color. something different all together, that'll work with everything existing, and that you're prepared to love enough. say, a certain shade of green
