Rift cut white oak cabinets
Comments (6)I think the biggest reasons you don't find many example kitchens with QS white oak or rift sawn white oak, are 1) very few cabinet companies offer it, not that many even offer white oak at all. 2) Since its not generally available, most people don't even know that it is an option. I think it can be quite beautiful. I went with quarter-sawn red oak ordered from Scherr's custom cabinets. I'm pretty sure that they also make cabinets from white oak. (I believe they also charge more for white oak.) Here are some pics of my red oak quarter sawn cabinets....See MoreKitchen Cabinets - Combining Rift Sawn and Quarter Sawn White Oak
Comments (57)Wow, those tiles will be stunning! Yes, great minds think alike lol. It’s nice we found each other, Houzz can be a lonely place when you aren’t doing a white shaker with marble look counters. There is absolutely nothing wrong with white and marble and when done right it’s beautiful- but it would be so so wrong with my house and my existing furniture and decor. My house is a 70s contemporary and since it has lots of natural stone, medium brown woodwork and exposed beams, the Mission style works very well with it. Having said that, I also thought a slavish reproduction of Mission/Arts and Crafts wouldn’t fit, but incorporating some of those elements was my goal. My parents were both antique collectors and a lot was passed down to me, so my decor is a lot of Mission but with some Empire, Eastlake walnut, and a few 60s-70s pieces thrown in the mix, in homage to my “contemporary of its time” house. My eclectic/eccentric style, for lack of a better term, isn’t something I see much in the modern HGTV world, but I often find inspiration in real estate photos from England, where I used to live, where being eccentric eclectic is a more accepted way of life :)...See MoreRift sawn white oak cabinets
Comments (7)You can see the color and grain difference along with finish more easily by looking at flooring sites. The color is not yellow. More pale with light browns without as pronounced open grain. Can be cerused. Rift or quartersawn is not necessary to avoid the open grain. You could still use it for the visual effect. https://floorzz.com/products/fabrica-french-oak-plank-bastille https://www.homedepot.com/p/Malibu-Wide-Plank-French-Oak-La-Playa-1-2-in-Thick-x-7-1-2-in-Wide-x-Varying-Length-Engineered-Hardwood-Flooring-23-32-sq-ft-case-HDMRTG265EF/308037923 https://www.calibamboo.com/product-sauvignon-engineered-oak-light-brown-wood-floors-7601002101.html Possible source for lumber. https://www.woodco.com/products/select-french-white-oak-lumber/...See MoreRift Sawn Oak Cabinets with Veneer- stain help
Comments (28)i'm wondering why you're here at this stage in the game? everything is installed, knobs are in , bacsplash is almost done. As soon as they brought those into the house you should have said "stop". this is not what I wanted. In no world do these match your sample. didn't the cabinet maker give you a complete, finished sample door? This is what they're supposed to do to make sure you like the finished result. (and because they did not, how can you be held responsible? You picked a stain sample on some other piece that's been sitting around their shop that doesn't even have the rails and stiles. You should have asked to see a FULLY FINISHED door. It's the fault of the GC and the person supplying the cabs. ) They aren't horrendous, but they aren't a high end white oak either. So, what to do? depends on how much you like or dislike them. To restain the veneer after a clear coat has been applied, (I'm assuming a clear coat WAS applied)? is PIA. the clear coat needs to be stripped, sanded, and then a darker stain applied to match the solid wood. Who made these and stained them??? At no time did they think this two tone was maybe 'incorrect' ?? I don't know what you paid for those wood cabs (painted ones are fine) but if you're going to keep them I'd get a steep discount. Or, just have them start over and make you new ones....See MoreJulie B.
