Living room arrangement confusion
Comments (3)I would turn the seating area so that it's on a diagonal within the square of the room but straight on facing the fireplace. At the far end, I'd put a large wall unit of cabinetry and bookshelves, and off center put a round table with four or five chairs, i.e.: to play cards, games, whatever, and get a really nice rug to put on that far 1/3 are of the room. Comments (36)First of all, your color scheme is perfect for a reading room. I say that because that is almost exactly the color scheme in DH's man cave, and it's cozy and inviting. Have you considered shelving on brackets for the walls flanking the fireplace and the short walls perpendicular to those walls? That will give you plenty of bookshelf space without conflicting with the mantel or heating vents. You could put a door stop on the French door to limit the swing. How often do you use the French doors to the living room? Can they be blocked with easily movable furniture so that you can make use of the space in front of the doors but allow for the doors to be opened without too much of a hassle when needed? Here's a suggested layout. I included two Leathercraft chairs and ottomans that are comfortable and small scale enough so that you can fit two in the room. They're not cheap, though. But fhey do have wheels, so they are movable. The H&M reading chair and ottoman are much larger, and you could only fit one ottoman with two chairs. Comments (4)It looks like moving the couch to the window wall will block the traffic from the bedrooms. If there is room, I would try the couch forward of the window wall and perpendicular to the wall with the bookcase so that it acts as one side of a "hall" from the bedrooms to the kitchen. Possibly use the buffet piece, or bookcase if it's low, behind the sofa. Place the chair in a right angle to one side of the sofa. Another arrangement would be to place the couch on the wall shared with your bedroom, TV and storage on the long wall, chairs across from couch. Computer to the left of the window before kitchen entrance. This will give you breathing room between lounge area and dining area. I'd put the tv on the buffet from the dining area until the right piece came along. Something like this arrangement is what you would see when walking down the entry hall. Imagine that fireplace as the tv. [Contemporary Living Room[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/contemporary-living-room-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_718~s_2103) by Durham Interior Designers & Decorators Heather Garrett Design For a small place, getting rid of the little pieces and using fewer large pieces will help with that cramped feeling. The little things by the bufffet can go. Put the tv on a long, low-ish piece of furniture that can hold equipment, movies, etc. Eventually, turning that long wall from the entry into a storage/media center will help reduce that cluttered feeling. You can consider a set or collect pieces that play well with each other. Get a smaller, but useful dining table. One that expands would be ideal so that you have options if you need length....See MoreLiving Room Arrangement and decor
Comments (12)You have two posting for the same room. Can you delete the one with 2 responses? Lower tv after you purchase a console that is wider than the tv. Remove all the little things filling spaces; little glass table by tv, don't put anything on tv cabinet, remove mirror above couch and replace with art, remove the wicket baskets, the book shelf and candle/lamps on bar. You don't need to fill every spot, you need some "free of stuff" space. Remove pictures behind the lamps, no need for anything there except the lamps. At least get a small round table and forget the bar stools so no one has to look at the kitchen while eating, more pleasant to look at the person you are eating with. It appears as if you have spare chairs to put at the table. No chairs lined on the wall in front of the window, maybe a low bench if needed for seating. You do have to much fur. I love your couch, end tables, lamps and rug. Pick a one or two colors from you rug and see what you find art wise as well as a few pillows. Possibly a tall plant in corner by bar. It appears you have some gray already, the gray appears to go well with the rug and couch. To me the colors in the rug and couch and the touches of gray are calming and cheerful....See Morenjmomma
