I have a metal card. It doesn't set off metal detectors. Actually, it's easier to find in my messy wallet because it stands out by feel.

Well, darn. I'm disappointed. I hoped it would be about these types of cards:

Our Marriott Visa has been metal for some years. How do I know? I tried to shred the old card once. Not a good move. I don’t know if it sets off metal detectors or not because most of the places I encounter those (airports, etc.) my purse is going through one kind of scanner and I’m going through another.

A million years ago my Marshall Fields charge card (not credit card) was metal so there really isn't anything new under the sun.

I have never encountered one before. Just the usual plastic with a chip as they have been replaced. I only have about 3, well now maybe 4 since Nordstrom turned their own store card into a Visa or something.

I've had a metal card from Chase for quite a while now.

My Amex has been metal for a few years. TBH I was thinking about switching to a cheaper card, because some of the benefits of the card I have no longer matter to me and the annual fee is very hefty. Then they happened to send me the new card and I really liked it. I use Amex for everything so I like being able to find it just by the feel in my purse is a plus. Still probably bad value for the fee.

Thanks everyone, I think I will get used to it. It was just so different immediately and I carry a skinny wallet with few cards. I guess Amex was just catching up with me. Maybe because my expiry date was approaching.

I hear you Mtn. When I was traveling a lot, I used many of the benefits. Now not so much.

Like other posters, my amex has been metal for a few years. I don’t even notice it. I think the airport detectors for bags are x-ray, not metal detectors, aren’t they?

WOW, wb. For only $15k to $50k, I can have a bejeweled Visa card! I’d get it, but I’d have to carry a plain ol’ plastic card for ATMs and places that don’t have “chip and PIN” technology. [tongue firmly planted in cheek]

We found out about metal credit cards the same way bbstxdid. DH tried to shred one and it really wrecked the shredder. We just last week had to get a new card ( we have a card we only use for internet purchases and got a text and email asking about a $40 charge. I actually first ignored the text thinking it was spam but then DH got it too. The charge was fraudulent) ,

They said they would send a prepaid envelope with the new cards which they did. We just sent the metal one back. the other day.

Not only that, but it's on the Bank of Kazakhstan, I believe. I guess they aren't all that popular--someone linked to the site here sometime last year and I see they still have several of the same ones available. But then, I can't imagine wanting a visa ultimate account no matter what kind of card came with it. After all, the price of the blingy card is only about a year's account fee.

I have the metal Amex and do like it. The only risk is that the heavier weight can make it easy to slide out of things. I have the platinum, and the fee is hefty but with the Uber & Saks credit, brokerage credit, etc I make up most of that back immediately. We still travel extensively and the upgraded hotel program status and lounge access are nice, not to mention the special rates.

I had my Amex gold card replaced about a week ago after they found an unauthorized charge on it. It's plastic.
