Comments (4)The earliest blooms were the orlaya grandiflora which self-sowed everywhere and now there are zillions of seeds ready to be harvested (anyone need some?). Of course, the bluebonnets were lovely. Esperanza is tall and lanky, no blooms yet. Had several NOID lilies bloomed and had colorful surprises. The coneflowers and black-eyed susans are still in bloom. A surprise bloomer is the rudbeckia triloba but it came up in the wrong place - one of my new favorite. The spiderworts bloomed and is now starting to bloom again. A few of the lovely gloriosa lilies bloomed. And now the crinums are heating up...white, pink, and dark pink. The scabiosa sown from seeds, only two came up, has died. Sowed numerous variety of seeds but few came up...so disappointing: marigolds, zinnias, sunflowers, etc. Pulled up two cherry tomato plants that were turning brown. The other veggies are struggling....See MoreReality check on oil vs propane vs electric boiler
Comments (11)you need a "traditional" backup fuel for any kind of solid fuel heating. Solid fuel heating is considered a supplementary heat source (even if it's pretty much all you use) and a heat source that requires no attention is the primary heat source. Most homeowners' policies require something other than solid fuel heat to be present and be considered primary heat. Additionally, if you are away from home for an extended period, you will want to have a 100% maintenance free backup. Often, these two fuel sources can be combined in the same unit - most on the market today offer that ability. Thus there is no need to have two furnaces or boilers sitting beside each other and the associated costs that would create. With anthracite coal heat, the initial investment is usually far less and the payback much faster than most other "alternative" energy options. Anthracite coal heat is not for everyone, but, with the modern appliances on the market and the significant cost savings, it's an option that's worth looking into....See MoreYour Roof Color Experience: Expectation vs Reality
Comments (11)DLM..my house is ten yrs old. I've been here on & off for a long time. I built the house with GW help. Doubt there are any pics online at this point. We are selling it and building again. so I'm back again :-) I haven't posted the plan we are likely to build either. Just bits and pieces. I'm not that thick skinned either. i like your house a lot. Very interesting how you did the shed dormer/lights on the front. Your house looks like my style. Especially like the front porch. Does it have a "friend's entry" on the back? Is that what I'm seeing there? Will that be brick on the bottom? Nice that you can see it in 3-d. Maybe I will get the nerve to post my plan :-) I'm hesitant to post pics of my present house. Here's a pic of the back to illustrate the roof thing. Message me if you want a front view. Just had pics taken for listing. South back...do shingles fade?? Thought they were black when I picked them out. Black shutters on front windows. No idea what the shingle is after all this time....See MoreReality bytes.... (Decor function vs. form)
Comments (26)Yes, I have a cat with IBD like symptoms though technically he doesn't have it. He's just had digestive distress since we got him ten years ago. Unfortunately it's flared up recently. I've always picked rugs that hide potential stains - wine, coffee, cat barf - and get rid of any carpet once it looks hideous either because of wear or stains. I'm overdue to get rid of my bedroom carpet but dreading the wood floor experience so I'm going to cover the worst of it up with a rug as soon as the cat's digestive flareup is under control - which will be soon I hope. Below is a stain hiding rug (also very cat barf resistant for easy cleanup), cat hair protectors for chairs, faux fur rug to minimize white cat hair on navy ottoman, plush blanket on back of sofa to keep white cat hair off that and a blue/white blanket on the ledge because the cat decided he liked it there....See Moretotoro z7b Md
