Bar counter Overhang
Comments (4)See Erikanh's post! We have a 15" overhang at our counter-height peninsula and it's fine for me (I'm 5'10" w/a 35" inseam). My DH is 6'4" (6'5"...he just corrected me!) and while it's OK, he would probably have been happier w/18"...but for the vast majority of people, the NKBA recommendations are fine. Note that some people will tell you that 12" or even 9" will work, but I've found that when questioned further, many of these people admit they sit sideways or straddle the cabinet in front of them. One of our good friends has a 12" overhang and I cannot sit normally at their peninsula (I sit sideways); my DH won't sit at it at all...it's too uncomfortable for him....See MoreNeed Help after big countertop mess up
Comments (17)I'm sorry you've hit a snag with your counters. I hope new slabs can be found that you like as well. I don't see how they can do that wrap thing if you're finding it hard to explain or even find a photo that is exactly what you mean. How can they template based on an idea?...See MoreIslands: How big is too big?
Comments (9)Our island in the house we moved from last year was 6x6.5'. Yes it was massive, maybe a little too big. But I kind of liked it. The "cooking" wall had a pro cooktop w/ double convection ovens to the left and base cab and a counter top cab on the right. Facing the cooktop was the island: d/w, big sink, tray cabinet. On the right side were straw produce drawers, trash pull-outs, 50-lb icemaker. Next side (facing the family rm) was an open display/cookbook shelves w/dead panels on each side. The fourth side, facing the breakfast room, were a base cab, microwave opening w/drawer below for dog sweaters, dead panel which was the side of the dishwasher. I hope that's clear. It did have some dead space which I could clean by stretching! I sometimes debated if I would do it that way again, but I did get alot of stuff/storage there....See MoreCountertop overhang too small?
Comments (4)Hmm, I did not specify an overhang except on the bar top. I thought the other overhangs were pretty standard. So we talked to vendor and they said they would fix the shorter overhang (which is on the sink side) by repositioning the top. The gap at the end is supposed to be hidden by the backsplash. Not sure how this is going to look. I went and looked at it again today and it looks like it is only 1/4" to 3/8" off so maybe the gap will not be noticeable....See MoreJaykaym
