master bedroom without freestanding furniture?
Comments (15)I am also in the process of adding a built in closet to my master bedroom. I lost a walk in when I remodeled the bathroom years ago. We started out with a bookshelf/media unit that my husband was going to build and ended up at a cabinet maker and adding closets/drawers. Its not inexpensive, but I was surprised at how reasonable it actually was. We chose cherry with raised panel doors. I can only imagine how much more reasonable it would have been if we'd chosen paint grade with less drawers. We had the same unit priced by a well known closet company and they wanted 4x more money!! I was floored! In 14 feet I'm doing a 24 inch depth with a closet at each end, a total of 12 drawers, open shelving and a place for a flat screen. Cabinet companies in our area are hurting. Might be worth at least having someone price it, plus they will draw it out for you and then at least you've got a plan that you can do yourself to save money. We'll be installing our own which will save some money. I'm excited to add the storage and get rid of some old furniture!!...See MoreGet rid of bedroom chest/dresser?
Comments (23)And I thought I was the only one! After our remodel I pitched lots of old or poorly fitting clothes. Thinned out my wardrobe to essentials -- so much that I thought I could live out of my closet exclusively. (I had had shelves installed and use baskets for underwear and socks.) I tried it for a few months and didn't need the dresser at all. Free-cycled it to a neighbor's son in his first apartment. This left room for the blanket chest I had always wanted. Our son-in-law is a cabinet maker and he built it to my specifications, complete with cedar lining and soft-close hinges so our granddaughter wouldn't smash her fingers if she peeked inside. It matches a dresser our SIL built for DH. I love this arrangement and will never go back to a dresser. A bit OT -- I had a brainstorm one day that allowed me to eliminate the panties basket: I made two 14" open-ended cylinders for panties. One is black, the other ivory. About the diameter of a small tuna can. Each has a ribbon loop on the top and elastic snugs the bottom. I stuff fresh panties in the top and pull them out of the bottom as I need them. I usually wear simple black or nude panties -- these "underwear dispensers" hang from a hook inside the closet....See MoreFinally, my Master Bedroom UPDATE !!!
Comments (38)Exactly, although I really appreciate your critique of my bedroom space. DH would not allow me to switch chest of drawers. That's his "side" of the room, bed, bench, lol. Y'all don't know what it took to talk him into curtains! Although, he has been pretty good throughout this decorating process. I did previously try to put the basket under the side table, but it is too tall with the pillows and would be a pain to get under to retrieve them. As for the air return, I cannot block it with anything that large and solid. You should have seen the dust on the solid painted screen. The heating and air guys were not thrilled with that, either. One of these days, I'll see the perfect console table to put there, but in the meantime, that's what I feel comfortable with and it's staying. I can't believe y'all have not seen these decorative screens as just that...decorative! Must be a southern thing. Anyhow, all I wanted to do is show you my newly revamped space because it is such a big improvement over what it was. Thank you for the kind words, tryingtodecorate. The color is Decatur Buff in the bedroom, and my fireplace wall is as well. I have considered painting that entire wall like the trim color, a paneled look like my previous home (seen below) and may do so when we replace the fireplace box (another story.) yayagal - We may sell, so come on!...See Moremaster bedroom and sons bedroom
