Double wall oven vs. Double wall oven with microwave/convection
Comments (4)I have had the Kitchen Aid KEMS308S for 5 years. I had not noticed that the microwave power was low. I doubt that power will be an issue. I assume that many ovens have cool down features. They are not running when the door is open. It is ture that the fan makes some noise, but it isn't that noticable. When I originally purchased this oven I had been intending to get individual ovens, but it turned out that the individual ovens had been discontinued. I see no difference between your choices because they are all double ovens and when one fails, they both fail wheras individual ovens could be replaced individually. I have not heard of the microwave section showing a high rate of failure. You didn't even mention the advantage of the micro/convection. It is not just a microwave, but a real convection oven with a broiling (sort of) element. It is not a speed oven because it does not microwave and heat at the same time. Actually it CAN microwave and crisp via the broil element. Anyway it is a small second oven that can bake a pie or bread (or a small trey of cookies I suppose). It heats far faster than the regular large convection oven because it is small. I find it very useful. The only problem is it is occasionally in use when I would want to reheat a cup of coffee etc. I keep an old microwave in the garage for those cases. While I hope I have relieved your concerns, I believe that there IS an issue. I have had no problem with my oven, and it has been several years since the Main contingent of problems: similar models have encountered a higher than normal thermal fuse blowing during the large oven self cleaning cycle. Unfortunately, the fuse is located on the back of the oven and is a $50 item and shuts everything down. Of course, most people see no problem (myself included) and the problem is certainly due to excessive heat behind the cabinet that could probably relieved by making sure that there is a little more open space back there since you are still installing cabinets? In any case, this is probably a general issue. Other ovens have failed on self clean cycles. At this point, many people concider the self clean to be a marketing ploy and don't use it. Perhaps we just don't make enough spattering roasts, but I have easily wiped down the main oven. It wasn't stuck on hard. Perhaps the surface has anti stick coating? My self cleans have been done mainly to test the thermal fuse problem. By the way, the microwave interior is stainless steel and IS much harder to clean. In fact, that last sentence is probably my most important piece of information. I imagine it would apply to other convection microwaves....See MoreNeed help choosing double wall ovens
Comments (33)DreamDancing & Gma_j...I've been using my GE Profile Trivection DO for several months now and I have no complaints...I think they're great! Yes, there is some heating up of the kitchen, but as Lambic said, the heat has to go somewhere! (If there's an oven that vents to the outside...that would be the one to not heat up the kitchen....is there one?) I've heard some people complain about the preheat time and/or the length of time the fan stays on...but I have not noticed either to be excessive. As a matter of fact, the oven is usually preheated long before I'm ready for it! As to the fan, I've found that if you crack the oven door, the fan stops within a few minutes. Even if you don't, it's only about 15 minutes or so. The best part of my new oven....the Trivection technology...it's great! My baked potatoes are done in less than 30 minutes, mac & cheese in 20 minutes (instead of 60 min), etc....See MoreHelp choosing 27' double wall oven
Comments (4)Our very old 27" oven went out last month. Because of the wonderful help on this site, I decided to go with a Gaggenau double oven bought off ebay. Still has 5 year warranty and got a great deal. I have now used it for everyday use of meals as well as many cakes and cookies. I adore it. I almost went with the Kitchen Aid but since I got a great deal upgraded to this oven I had never heard of before I read this site. I hope you have as much luck as I did because I am very happy with my choice....See Morechoosing between double and single wall oven
Comments (5)Honestly DOUBLE OVEN!!! Back issues, let me tell you. Properly installed, the top oven is SUPER easy for normal baking: pizzas, cookies, french fries, etc. But that bottom oven?? It's a comfortable height for those HEAVY items. The turkey, the roasts...you don't have to lift the heavy roaster UP, but you also don't have to bend down the way you would for a stove-oven. For me anyway, the bottom oven rack is at carry-height. So I just carry the roaster to it, and place it in, not bending or lifting. Love it. And then the top is all the regular baking. And those days you need 10 pizzas, EASY! Or if you're making items that have two different temperatures and two different cooking times. I'd never part with my double oven! Even FOR more storage (and I still have a 3' tall top cabinet that holds TONS and a small drawer below for pans, so no real loss of storage imo)....See MoreLisa SW
