Best flooring options for a kids' space?
Comments (2)Is this on a slab or conventional floor? We used vinyl tiles in our rec room 16 yrs ago and stayed with neutral color so we could add an inexpensive large area rug as needed. Worked out great. If I were to redo that room today, I might consider laminate but it is slippery and noisy and I can't get past those 2 negatives. The vinyl has taken so much use and abuse and still easy to clean up. There are some really nice fake wood vinyl planks out now too....See MoreBonus Room Insulating options
Comments (15)Looking at the photos the batt insulation was thicker than the 3.5 inch studs. I am going to guess it is an R-19 batt which has a thickness of about 6 inches. Perhaps it is even thicker. When you apply the sheets on top you are compressing the fiberglass which reduces the R value. The sheets you applied have an R value of 3.3. So you may have not increased the total R value, and there is a chance you may have decreased it! The sealing you added will certainly help. I question how much sealing is needed for a an exterior wall that has no penetrations. Is the bonus room heated? If not then added insulation is not going to improve the comfort level. I see a sloped ceiling above. Is that the exterior roof deck? If it is are you going to insulate it?...See MoreWhat's the best floor options?
Comments (5)I'm personally not a fan of wood look tile or any tile for several reasons. I feel the wood look tile will look dated in just a few short years. Keeping the grout clean is always a major headache. And if your floors are not completely level, it will add to the cost to level them, but that should be done with any floor you put down. The main reason I'm not a fan of tile of any type is because it's extremely hard and if you have any back or knee problems it can just exacerbate the problem. (I have both, LOL) We are renting a condo in FL for the next year and moved in a week before heading back to NY. The floors are all tile and my back was feeling it after only 1 week. I've read good things about Luxury Vinyl Tile and the better ones are almost indistinguishable from real wood. I personally wouldn't give up on real wood floors. Think of all the old beautiful floors that were used in houses before we had tile and cork and LVT etc....See MoreWhich looks Best ? Bonus question: For what reason ?
Comments (40)When exploring your options, it's useful to keep track of where the rain water and snow will fall. For example: Will the big additions snow load drop onto your breezeway roof? How will rain water flow off the various roofs?...See Moresoutheasthouse
