Comments (2)handymac gave you perfect advice, and it's hard to improve on it. The only thing I will add is that you may need to put in a pilot hole for the 3" screws. I, too, suspect that you have short screws and they are close to stripping out. However, you may have trouble driving 3" screws all the way in unless you have a pilot hole. Just don't make it too big in diameter: the diameter of the drill bit should be the same size as the center shank of the screw (i.e., the part you see when you hold the screw up to the light and ignore the threads). You can pick the right bit by holding bits up against the screw, and choosing the one that best matches that shank....See MoreNew washer/dryer dilemma
Comments (21)Hello, catching the tail end of this so you might have made a purchase already but.. I have been selling laundry for 2 years now. Here is my take- Capacity vs clean clothes- There are three ways to go. 1. Front load laundry- You get the capacity do bedding, comforters etc. The drum rotates back and forth getting everything wet constantly. This style of washer and dryer are quiet. Get a washer with the "fanfresh" option etc. What this option does is blows air and tumbles the clothing after the cycle finishes. Great for when you are away or asleep. The key to front load laundry is to use minimal soap and warm water, and keep the fabric softener to a minimum as well. 2. New style top load laundry with wash plate design. All of the complaints lately are from these machines. They do not fill more than half way up at the most. Some machines have a bulky cycle that evidently fill higher. These machines have huge capacity but when filled to that capacity just do not agitate enough to clean really dirty clothes and can leave soap on the clothes. 3. The last option is to buy a Speed Queen washer. Yes the capacity is only 3.3 cu.ft. No you will not get a comforter larger than a thin full inside and wash correctly. The washer comes with a 3 year warranty. The drum is stainless steel and warrantied for life. There is no lid lock. It has a real agitator. The AWN432 only uses a timer. No control board to go out. The 82 and 92 series washers are exactly the same units but with a control board. These two units come with a 5 year warranty. Or you can go to the front load and or stack design like you mentioned. Speed Queen is still USA made by Alliance commercial laundry. G.E. is now made by a Chinese company. Just don't buy Samsung. That is even worse. Korean.....See MoreCloset door help, please! Comments (17)The bifold doors on the house I grew up in were three panel because each panel represented a half door, so the panel size was more representative and in-scale with what you currently have. Squeezing six panels onto each bifold would be like each of the doors in the above picture having 12 panels. I think this is a modern design mistake. It's the proportions of the panels that you want to get right, not the number. Two three panel bifold leaves replacing one of those pair will result in the same panel arrangement as you currently have, not twice as many panels squeezed in the same space. (Its like when people buy divided lite windows and if the average sized window is 6/6, they squeeze 6/6 onto the basement and attic windows as well, and that's not how it was done originally. I lived in a building from 1830 and the two middle stories had 6/6 windows. Some of the first floors had a very long sash so some of those windows were 6/9. The fourth floor windows were 3/3. But the divisions in the windows were all very proportional between the windows. There wasn't 12 divisions squeezed onto windows half the size.)...See MoreDoor dilemma help
Comments (19)We are replacing both doors (long story) but the majority of the damage has come from the office door knob hitting the door going to the garage. I would use the silicone gels but the issue is according to what angle the garage door is open it can hit several places. I really think the flat style knob will solve a lot of issues (fingers crossed). The upstairs home office is like a office/family room so hearing the washing machine run/spin is quit a nuisance at any time of the day. Thank you all! (Pic shows how door knob has hit it)...See MoreOpen House Home Staging & Redesign, LLC
