Granite is a natural material, the fabricator wouldn't have a way of knowing this would happen unless they have installed lots of this material before and been given feedback.

I personally love the coloring, but can see how you are surprised.

I would guess that the fabricator would be willing to replace the slabs but you will likely have to cover labor to re-fabricate.

mark_rachel that looks a LOT like my stone! What is the "real" name. Maybe it was Tuscan Twilight - slab did not look like the Tuscan Sunset above. To answer some questions: Flo Mangan We do have LED lights, they were there when counter was installed, I saw no purple - Daniela Marino the room is not sunny, small window, no sky light. kind of dark really - that's why we installed the recessed lighting - purple is all over not just by sink - have barely cooked since counter was installed so not really a lot of moisture. We have not installed the backsplash but have chosen Cromia Beige 1 10x2 tile (kind of winter white, light but not white) which will be stacked and the grout is a birch color. Close to the SW 9110 Malabar paint that has been chosen (but not used yet) the cabinets are close to SW 9109 Natural Linen. The gray in the stone was a surprise I could handle - I have absolutely no idea what to do with the purple that is evident all over the stone now. The floors are a wood look porcelain tile called Solna Viejo which we used on almost the entire first floor of the house, it is a nice looking 6 x 35 tile, medium in color not cool, not dark, not shiny, no gray or ash in it. The kitchen opens to the family room the furniture in there is a saddle colored leather. The fabricator most likely hates me because I hated the seam in the granite so much (before I somewhat got over it) and now...purple rain (as my husband called it). I am home now, can't stop looking at all the places the counter is purple and overwhelmed by it all. It took so much time, energy and money to put this kitchen together and now we can't move forward until we have some sort of resolution with the granite.

That is so frustrating and disappointing, and maddening and perplexing. I think I would find a "installation" expert to come look at it from a completely "uninvolved" point of view and get an independent view on what is going on. You have eliminated lighting, 'cleaning' products, other light, etc., so it really boils down to what the fabricator used on it in fabrication and installation. wonder if they "sealed" it? That could be an issue for sure. We can only point you in a direction to try to get some technical, independent views on what is going on here. Hoping you can find a reputable person. There is a fellow here on Houzz who "repairs" all kinds of countertop materials. Perhaps he could be of some help. I will see if I can find his name and post it. He is a Corian person, but experienced in all kinds of stone and repairs. I'll bet he could be of assistance.

I have heard about 'blooming" when light colored granites start to turn green. It has to do with glue from the repair kit.

There is a pumice that you can make and as well as products to buy. But.....I don't know why yours is turning purple and not green.

If you truly do not like the purple accents, I do hope you get some resolution to this, but if you are worried about it not looking good with the rest of your décor, purple is a very versatile color and goes well with a lot of other colors, both warm and cool. It is a combo of red (warm) and blue (cool), it's complementary color is yellow (warm).

I think it adds personality to your countertop. But, you have to live with it and if you don't want to, I hope you get the outcome that you want.

mark_rachel what color did you paint your kitchen?

Kashmir White/River White etc. often has purplish garnets spots and splotches in its makeup. That’s normal for many white stones. You may not have noticed them on a vertical slab in sunshine. It would have looked grayer there. Changing the orientation to horizontal with artificial lights can bring out some colors more. Try changing your light bulbs to a brighter white higher Kelvin. Low K warm white lights often alter colors and have a poor. Color Rendering Index. You want a high CRI for your bulb choice. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_rendering_index

Sorry to hear you aren’t happy with your countertops. But you have to realize the color it appeared to you in the granite yard =daylight/sunshine will def look different when placed horizontally in your kitchen with artificial light.

What appears as gray to one person may look blue to another - or one set of eyes sees gray and another sees green.

And people tend to forget natural products do change colors. Think of a seashell with ocean water on it or a rock wet with rain - the colors look much different when dry.

If you can’t get the stone company to see it your way, or make it look better by changing your lighting, could you convince yourself Mother Nature chose your countertops for you? :-)

Your first picture was taken outside in fairly bright sun. That would be a color temperature around 6000k. Indoor lighting would be different. Do you know what the color temperature is of the LEDs you have? They might be accentuating the purple, as well as changing the lighter colors to greyer.

I am so sorry you are going through this, however intrigued. The difference how we see something. May I ask you try a experiment; as suggested; try changing every light flowing in the room to 6000K Take a pic and post. I’m truly so curious

Embrace or change. Gray and plum tomes are lovely together. If it makes you crazy? Change it. But have a very POLITE "oh woe is me" conversation with the stone yard. Be prepared to split the unhappiness too. You have a nice install, they may likely have had no way of knowing it would morph in your home.

Lighting? Don't bother. Sooner or later we turn the light off: ) Bunch of bull to a top making you unhappy.: )

I think I found your actual granite name, since you said it was "Tuscan" something. Here are a couple of pics of "Tuscan White" granite. While I agree with the posts above that talk about how some granites have garnet and amethyst in them, and I have seen those IRL, that does not explain why the purple wasn't there before--per your photos--and is now there.

My granite was called Fiore Bianco & my wall color is Clay Beige BM. I also have cool LEDS in my kitchen. I used a crackle subway for my backsplash.

There is No Way for any fabricator to predict what will happen with natural stone once installed. You can see from the slab picture to what was installed that it is the exact same stone. They captured a lot of the huge mother of pearl pockets that is in the material, There is also mica, Quartzite and then the Amethyst pieces in there. There is quite a few natural stones that will discolor or oxidize over time. If you wanted total control over the color of the product then maybe a quartz would have been a better option. This is just mother nature in all her glory - "she" is a woman after all and loves to change her mind on things.

Here is my Fiore Bianco... It really does look the same. I looked last night & didn't find any purple spots. I would be ok it there were though. I would just embrace them.

One additional word. When expectations are not met, things can look inordinately bad. But, sometimes "fixes" can be worse, so think hard on this. I would talk with the fabricator in any case, and perhaps you can work out some credit that would help you embrace the current condition. After all, it would cost them big time to change it out, so perhaps you can figure out a "deal". I thought the input lynartist posted above was very valuable. Keep that in mind too for future.

The granite is not changing color. It’s the same color as in the stone yard. You never noticed the purplish areas when the slab was upright. It is perfectly fine. Desirable even.

Amethyst as a stone is said to reduce anxiety, stress, very healing and have been said to promote balance in ones life. I would have never chosen to bring it into my home but hey if the universe thinks I need it.... JAN MOYER your words embrace or change spoke to me in many ways and were almost divine confirmation. Thank you. lynartist I love your colors, scared of them but beautiful choices. I will obtain swatches and see how they work with the furniture in the adjoining family room, which shares a wall with the kitchen and is fully visible - needs to work with that "saddle colored" big leather furniture my husband loves. Do you believe the colors will still work with the tile chosen ? I do believe it must have been there all along and did not show until install except that when they were trying to match the seam (see prior post) one of the reasons they were "doing the best they could with what they had" it was specifically mentioned that the "other slab" had purple in it and that he (the guy fabricating) didn't think I wanted purple in the kitchen and the sales rep agreed with him AND repeated the comment to me. SO it must have been there and that is why it is MOSTLY along the back and hidden in the corner by the sink. christinero mentioned that yellow would be a good complement, SW Malabar is in the yellow family and maybe it will look fine? Picture below is not my counter. mark_rachel thanks for sharing pictures and information - I am positive my stone is the same type as yours. Flo Mangan doubt there will be a fix or a replacement - they have not even returned my call .. Pics below of what has been purchased to finish out - not sure what to do about accent colors and fabrics. Cromia Beige 1 tile (not white) Birch 903 Grout and Malabar paint (not my pic - but it did show how "yellow" Malabar could look in comparison to other colors.

I think this is probably the happiest resolution to a stone issue I've seen on this site! Itza Gonzalez, I love your attitude and your willingness to let the universe give you amethyst. You have a beautiful kitchen and the soft purple makes it even better.

I lived in my house -- where the previous owners redid the kitchen -- for 4 years before I noticed many flecks of purple in our granite. I love it! I think yours looks beautiful & I love your positive attitude about the universe bringing the healing elements of amethyst into your home. Enjoy & good luck finishing the project.

I can understand being hurt, panicked, angry and upset. I think those counters are beautiful - nature at its finest. Many stones have amethyst, garnet, micas and rusts that show up in the stones. Amethyst is dominant in your stone. That is a soothing mineral. I hope you can find a way to incorporate it into your new kitchen and enjoy it.

Embrace the purple please. If you want non-changing color countertops, get Corian.

I love purple and hunted for a stone with those colors, but that's my taste, and to each his own. I do agree with one of the comments about "corrections" sometimes being worse than the original. I chipped the edge of my counter. The fabricator patched it for me, but I see the patch more than I did the chip. I also love the color palettes lynartist has shared. If you decide to embrace the purple, I would also add other little decorative accents to pick up on it. I'm posting a photo of my kitchen. If you click to enlarge, you'll see the pendant lights, amethyst bowls and Marie Daâge cups and saucers. The stone is acquarella quartzite and the backsplash is back-painted glass in BM Victorian Mauve. In the adjoining pantry, the cabinetry is painted in SW Autumn Orchid and the walls are SW Sensitive

Well, we homeschool and just happen to be studying geology the past few weeks so I have some newfound knowledge about rocks/stones/minerals and I have to agree with the commenter above that stated it's due to amethyst formations in your stone. My kids have been finding geodes all over our property and cracking them open to discover what marvelous treasures might be inside. Usually, they are filled with quartz but occasionally there is a little bit of amethyst. From our research, amethyst forms as a reaction to more iron content in the stone. I think you should embrace the natural wonder of your stone and view those spots as more unique and special.

But, FWIW, I hope your stone isn't Kashmir White (doesn't really look like it but I see some similar characteristics) because I had it and it was a nightmare!

Shead, why the “nightmare”? I have had River White which I believe is same as or close to Kashmir White for almost 7 years and have had no problems. I do seal it every year. What problems did you experience?

If you read the whole thread, you'll see that I wasn't the only one that had issues with it. Joseph Corlett even weighed in.

I work in the natural stone industry and recently had a whole batch of beautiful marble turn from white and green to purple and yellow. It is a phenomenal occurance. We have determined that the cause was an incomplete cure of epoxy resin on the fiberglass backing. The reactiong between the resin and the minerals in the stone casued the color change.

I have the same granite. It has purple as well, but its been like so since I picked the three slabs at the warehouse. Unfortunately mine is sprouting out some awful almost see through tanish/rust/oil spill like color stain. Hard to describe, at 1st i thought it was an oil spill. Ive own grantie before, and im beginning to think that this is just not good quality granite, if you can say such a thing. Where I purchased mine they sort them by grades. A being the least expensive, to lets say Z, being exotics . Mine is a C grade. Not the least expensive, but again, not the best. I seal it monthly, only clean it with granite cleaner nightly. Im fortunate to not have any seems but just how you are getting the amethyst pop out now im getting the ugly oil like stain poping out. I think its just a natural thing.
