Another Water Softener Thread...
Comments (57)....info I got back from OPWC when asked which systems I was looking at. Hi.....! Thanks for contacting the Ohio Pure Water Company...! I prefer the Fleck 2510 SXT valve over the 7000SXT, as we have had better results with the 2510 model, and I believe it is the better, of the two controls. The 2510 model is also easier to work on, than the 7000 model. Plz Note that all our Residential Softener units come are complete units including, Top Baskets, Fleck Stainless Steel Bypasses, larger 15x17x36" or 18x33" Brine Tanks on the 64000 gr size softener....... and the 18x40" Brine tank on the 80,000 gr softener. All Brine Tanks include Salt Grids in the bottom of the tank and the Fleck 2310 Safety Float Assembly, too. 1.) Our 64,000 grain water softener with the Fleck 2510SXT Electronic Metered valve, for whole house filtration of hardness from your water, and can be located at this link on our web site..... http://ohiopurewater.com/shop/customer/home.php?cat=181 I would recommend this softener be set to regenerate about every 2000 gallons, which would be an average regeneration of about every 7 - 8 days, with 4 people in the home. 1ea Fleck 2510SXT Meter On Demand Control Valve Water Softener 64000 Grain Capacity 12x48 resin tank 2.0 cubic feet of resin 13 gpm service flow rate 3.0 gpm backwash flow rate Floor Space Required is 28x15x56 Selected options: Fleck Valve Connection: 3/4 Inch Stainless Bypass Valve Tank Color Option: Blue Brine Tank Size: 15x17x36 Rect Brine Tank Softening Resin (2.0 cuft): High Capacity Resin Our Price............................................. $742.00 Or..... the larger 80,000 gr size unit.... 2.) Our 80,000 grain water softener with the Fleck 2510SXT Electronic Metered valve, for whole house filtration of hardness from your water, and can be located at this link on our web site..... http://ohiopurewater.com/shop/customer/home.php?cat=181 I would recommend this softener be set to regenerate about every 2600 gallons, which would be an average regeneration of about every 9 - 10 days, with 4 people in the home. 1ea Fleck 2510SXT Electronic 3/4 Inch Meter On Demand Control Valve Water Softener 80000 Grain Capacity 13x54 resin tank 2.5 cubic feet of resin Gravel Support Media 18 gpm service flow rate 3.5 gpm backwash flow rate Selected options: Fleck Valve Connection: 3/4 Inch Stainless Bypass Valve Tank Color Option: Blue Brine Tank Size: 18x40 Round Brine Tank Softening Resin (2.5 cuft): High Capacity Resin Our Price............................................ $885.00 We have all items in stock and our internet price includes Ohio Sales Taxes & Shipping to your address in the lower 48 US States....!...See MoreStill another water softener help request
Comments (1)-is it true that the timed, automatic control valves will not hold up in exterior sunny, hot conditions? NO. There are environmental (outdoor) covers available for Fleck and other industry standard control valves. You'd be served to provide some protection from the elements regardless of the brand of softener you choose. Some type of small shed or enclosure built against an exterior house wall would be fine. -is the Kinetico system sized correctly? Maybe. It is not uncommon for softener sellers to be oblivious to SFR requirements. -does Fleck also makes an on demand valve? How well does it work and would you recommend it? Yes they do. Timer based valves are very old technology and markedly less efficient than contemporary demand initiated designs. Pretty much EVERY control valve manufacturer makes and recommends a demand initiated control valve now days. -during a power outage, would we have water on the electric controlled valve? Or is that what the bypass would be for? Yes you would have soft water during a power outrage. The only advantage to the Kinetico design control valve is that it does not require electricity to regenerate. Contemporary control valves that require AC power only use AC power during regeneration at only a certain intervals during regeneration. An adequately sized uniterruptable power supply (UPS) used for computers work nicely on softeners to ride out intermittent power interruptions as long as the power isn't out all day. -If we go with Fleck, what size system will we need? Always size a softener for the maximum hardness the water system will have. I'd prefer to have test results from your location rather than the water authority. Their test point is miles of pipe away from your home. PH is a touch high. Need a better test for SFR... with your results it's 15gpm. Use a tub and open both hot and cold. In your circumstances you are kind of a captive audience and it sounds like the Kinetico dealer is your only option if you aren't willing or able to do some work. If the Kinetico dealer has a good reputation around your area they may be your best (only?) choice, but bear in mind that if they have a bad rep for service after the sale then you may be buying a $3000 door stop....See MoreWater Softener recommendation
Comments (10)From what I have read, I think a 24,000 grain is the correct size? I tested the hardness on a strip and it's about 4-5. 5 people x 75 gal x 4.5 hardness x 6 days between regen = 10,125 We do a lot of laundry and have two dishwashers, both are HE machines but still get above average usage, so I used 75 gal per day per person for my calc. Actually with 24k size, it will be more like 15 days between regen. Is there a problem with that many days? From reading Alice's posts, the ideal is 6-7 days between regen. Water pressure is excellent. Also, hubby likes control, so I think the SXT is the option we will use. Electricity at site not a big issue. will make sure to get 10% cross linked resin since Im on city water, top basket and gravel bed. Now just wondering which Fleck series to go with... And whats the benefit of a twin tank? Thank you!...See MoreWater Softener Recommendation
Comments (20)I ended up with a Clack WS1 48K softener, and a backwashing carbon filter with 1.5 cube of carbon and KDF55 media for it's bacteriostatic properties, and because it will help prolong the life of the carbon. Ended up at $2400 total with the install, a little more than I wanted to spend, but not the $3600 of the Kinetico, and I think I have an excellent system. Not only did the Kinetico cost more, but having to go to the one and only dealer for service and the cost of their carbon replacements, etc. just didn't seem like it was worth it. Only regret is I wish I would have read about the Vortex technology ahead of time, I might have done that or gone with the Watts 3 stage that has all this media in one tank, not two and has Vortex. Installer came by and tested the water, no more chlorine/chloramines, and definitely have soft water. Will be interested to see the change once all the hardness is out of the pipes, fixtures, and it's gone through a regeneration or two....See Moreiamtiramisu
