I don't like my new house !!
Comments (8)Thanks everyone for giving me hope !! I guess it's just so different than my last house that I am having a hard time ajusting to spending all this money and not having exactly what I want. When you build a home, you should get what you want, but with the housing plan I am moving to, the lots are so small that the type/style of home that I like wouldnt' fit on the lots. I talked to the builder this morning and he said some of the same things you guys are saying about when the drywall goes up, painting, furniture and I believe it, but it still boils down to not really being the style of home that I am use too. But, since I am newly single I didnt' want a lot of grass to cut or a driveway too large when it came time to shovel snow, so I moved to a plan that offered me that, but took away the privacy and views that I loved. I guess I'll give it time and if I'm still horribly unhappy, I'll put a For Sale sign up. I feel guilty that I don't like it, a lot people would be estatic to have a brand new home that is a fairly nice size. I should be happy with what I have..Yet, I'm feeling sad that I don't have what I really want. There are people that have lost thier homes and had to dramatically downsize, move to an apt.etc. and I should be grateful for what I have.....See MoreDon't buy anything from Home Depot
Comments (10)I had a similar long wait for my rebates from Home Depot. When I purchased my washer and dryer set I was owed a $150 gift card for the purchase (over $1500 promotion) and I was owed $55 for the refund of my delivery fees (it was a free delivery promotion as well) I filed the paperwork for both separately and waited. The $150 gift card came within 4 weeks. I waited and waited on the delivery rebate. The set was purchased July 14 and the paperwork filed a week later. The paperwork said to allow 8-10 weeks for delivery. Almost exactly 10 weeks later, I got an email stating that some outside company had received my rebate request and was processing it. I was informed that I should expect my check to arrive in 8-10 more weeks. I just received the check at the end of November. All in all 17 weeks to receive my check for $55. I can't say that I won't purchase from Home Depot again, but I do understand now that there certainly won't be any rushes to get my money back. I did buy several gallons of paint during their Labor Day paint promotion and received my rebates very promptly within 5 or 6 weeks. I think the main problem was with the third party company Home Depot hired to take care of the delivery rebates. Home Depot isn't alone in unusually long and complicated rebate requests. I had a terrible problem several years ago getting a delivery rebate that Sears owed me. I had to refile it three times after being told first that I didn't qualify and next that it was never received, and then that the submission period had expired. Fortunately, I'd saved the first letter and had made several copies of everything. Almost more trouble than it was worth for $45. So far my best experience has been with Best Buy. One reason I like to buy from Best Buy during "free delivery" promotions is that they don't make you pay the delivery and then file for a rebate. They just don't charge you for it up front. If Best Buy had had my washer and dryer set for the same price as Home Depot, I'd have preferred to buy from them. At the time I bought, Home Depot was cheaper because of the $150 rebate....See MoreDon't want to stay true to my house's style .. Advice on exter. update
Comments (2)I suggest you post this on the Home Decorating forum. You will get alot more feedback than you'll get here. A colonial is not a craftsman. A bungalow is a 1 or 1 1/2 story house - not a 2 story. Craftsman homes don't have attached garages. There will be lots you can do to update this house. However, don't force it into something it's not. And don't be married to the trendy non-colors that some say are popular today ie greige. Colors of nature are always best for homes in wooded settings. head on over to Home Decorating:)...See MoreDon't buy Silgranit sink. My new sink CRACKED.
Comments (67)I have a silgranit sink from blanco which is 4 months old and just cracked as well. It cracked in a place (back side 3 inches up from bottom, horizontal crack 5 inches long) which was unlikely to be caused by anything other than a defective product. I am frankly barfing at the people on this forum who are saying the manufacturer is doing all they can/should do by providing a replacement sink. Nobody would want a replacement sink where they already have a poor quality controlled sink from a company, now knowing that they are not the only one. The company should offer a refund and labor install for the replacement. Not saying that they will do that without a fight but that is what they should do. I dont really want to hear from people who think a manufacturer should not do that because no warranty covers that. If a manufacturer is reputable, and not simply trying to cover itself, it will evaluate cases for good will and preservation of its brand name and act accordingly. I have not yet submitted my case either to the store where i bought it or blanco so i dont know if they will react with good will. Also, the idea that a garbage disposal could cause this is ludicrous. This is advertized as strong, and impervious to everyday wear. the store said that the sink was basically indestructible. I have a 400.00 insinkerator disposal which is barely audible and super low vibrations. If a sink cant stand up to that (or any other name brand disposal) then it should not be sold. Update: I am already hearing from the distributor (not the seller - the seller immediately passed the buck to the distributor who i have no agreement with) that Blanco doesnt cover labor, nor will they swap out for a stainless sink (even a Blanco brand). The way i hear this is Blanco has every right to sell you a defective sink for a custom installation and yet have no responsibility for the damage it causes except to ship you another defective sink. This is what i expected. They know that most people wont want to play hardball for what might be under 1k worth of damages. We shall see....See Moredeb s
