I agree ... it sounds like light is your issue. You're on Step 2 ... The steps to developing the knack for caring for African Violets ... Step 1 - When you can water them without killing them. Step 2 - When you give them enough light so that flower buds don't turn brown, dry up, and drop off. Step 3 - When you give just enough fertilizer in their water to keep them healthy and blooming. Step 4 - When you protect your plants from the exposures that can turn you into a pest fighter, rather than an AV lover. Step 5 - When you learn that AV's grow and bloom better in smaller (1/3rd plant diameter), rather than larger, pots. Step 6 - When you learn to lighten your soil mix with Pearlite. Step 7 - Repotting your AV's at least once a year.

Hi Judy, From Lyndon Lyon's, or LLG, I get consistently large plants, often in bloom, in 2 1/2 in square pots in a good potting mix that does not have to be changed for at least six months. They come with plastic stakes that have the plant name printed on them so I can move them when I repot. The plants grow rapidly and do not sucker. The company has excellent customer service and ships promptly. For me, it is worth it to pay slightly more to get consistently larger, premium quality plants. For all the trouble of ordering live plant material across country, I want to get the best I can for my money. They have good quality control and accurately label the plants. They are my first choice. I only go elsewhere if there is something I want that they don't carry. They also keep their web catalogue updated, so if they are out of stock, they won't list the item. So, no surprises and no substitutions. They usually have enough of a particular type to choose from. For example, they will offer five different reds or five different whites or more. Their own hybrids are exceptional, vigorous and strong. I primarily raise Lyon 's own hybrids. They also have a wide selection of many other hybridizers. They are a large enough company to be able to introduce new hybridizers. They first opened up the Russian market and offer a wide range. They seem to pick the best choices of other hybridizers, so if they offer a plant , I feel it has been preselected for good performance. If something is new in the plant world, chances are they developed it. They are consistent in what they offer, it is usually possible to find the same plant year after year, plus new ones. I like to be a loyal customer and give them my business. They have been at this for sixty years, I appreciate they are still in this business. I feel they are excellent, so why not do business with them? When I place an order with them, I already know what to expect, so I can safely order a dozen. But they will accept an order of any size. Something else I did was put my alcohol in a sprayer bottle. Properly labeled of course! That can really get where no Qtip can reach sometimes. If you have an infestation that has turned your plant mostly white with mealy then toss it. But for light infestations,,,,,try alcohol first. I have saved many plants over the years. I don't get it often. Once every few years if that. BUT I will always try to "alcohol" it first and I have never had a "spread" thru my collection. Let us know what happens! Rosie

you gave us all great info on every variable except one ... and it sounds like you hit those spot on ... info on everything but light .. and then you ask.. is it light level ... hmmm ... lol ... it very well could be.. but give us some facts on such ... but regardless of that .. it has always been my idea.. that if a plant is happy enough to REPEAT BLOOM .. it can be having many real problems .. and if there arent any problems .. well ... whats to fix??? there is the small chance its one of those circumstances where some heavily stressed plant seems to bloom.. set seed one more time.. perhaps to carry on the species before it dies ... but crikey... your plants sure dont look like they are in that circ .. i think the simple solution to your problem ... after we look at light levels... is to just get more plants... so you have other things to look at .. lol ... ken ps: when i had my AV collection ... it was under fluorescent lights about 6 inches from the plants for 16 hours a day ... etc ... in my MI .. window sills were to cold in winter ... lights have become much ore intense.. my simple point is... a flowering plant needs a lot of light.. to create the energy.. to keep flowering .... pps: and if you are going to buy or build a light stand.. well go all the way up.. many shelves.. and buy more plants like mentioned above... lol.. i fell like a drug pusher this morning ... lol
