Fratelli -- the mystery oven?
Comments (26)Finally installed this week! Have cooked two nights in a row--typical weeknight fare, nothing fancy. Stir fry last night and pasta tonight. I'm LOVING my stove. I'm going to roast chicken tomorrow night, which will be the maiden voyage of the oven. One confusion only so far, and that is the digital clock. I'm not stupid, but I'm starting to feel that way--anyone with a fratelli have trouble getting the clock to work correctly? I think I have it set, and then it doesn't keep time. Even with the manual in front of me I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Anyhow, here are some pictures...I'll eventually pretty everything up for a 'finished kitchen' post but in the meantime, with plastic coating still on my hood chimney and no cabinet glass, and debris everywhere-- I at least have a WORKING kitchen! Yippee! And some dishwashing, too ! :)...See MoreVentahood mystery solved (attention all VAH owners)
Comments (7)bob411, if there's a grease accumulation, I've found that WD40 is usually not the solution. WD40 is a light lubricant mixed with a penetrating solvent and it will temporarily free up binding mechanisms with old grease on them, but after a while much of the solvent evaporates and the old grease thickens again, causing the original problem to reappear. The proper solution is to wash ALL the old grease out with a solvent and then apply the correct type of fresh lubricant, if any. Exhaust vent louvers and flaps should work with no lubricant at all. Paint thinner works well for removing petroleum grease from most metals; you may need to use a small natural fiber brush, such as a disposable acid brush, to accelerate the action of the solvent. Accumulated rancid cooking grease can be removed with liberal application of Simple Green and/or household ammonia, full strength, followed by a water rinse....See MoreWolf/Sub-Zero Quotes
Comments (10)You have lotsa options besides Wolf, especially ovens. Just follow one lady's experience with her Wolf ovens on Garden Web, She is on at least her 3rd Wolf oven now. Compare that to my nearly 7 year old Electrolux oven that has never had a service call and still looks and performs great. Also note the posts from a user that has both an Electrolux oven and a Wolf Oven---The Elux is a wall oven and the Wolf oven is part of a range. Also there were at least 3 different posters that had problems with the Wolf door latch and some with various error codes. True there are many many Wolf ovens that work well and are relatively trouble free, as there are a few Elux ovens that have had problems (Usually those made around 2009-2010), but it you compare the number of Elux ovens sold, (They are sold in virtually every Sears store), plus they are about half the price of a Wolf, one would suspect that Elux sells a lot more ovens than does wolf. "Most folks" will only post if there is a problem with the oven, so taking that in account, one would deduce that far more Elux ovens are in operation with no problems than there are Wolf ovens with no problems. Both ovens are made in the US. Good luck with your hunt! Gary...See MoreRecent Wolf 30" and 36" ranges - problems/like?
Comments (3)I've had the soon-to-be-discontinued open burner, all gas 30" for a week and a half, so too soon to know about problems or long range reliability. I bought now because I prefer a more open burner pattern. I roasted a turkey and made gravy the other night and held the gravy on the super teeny middle burner without any problems with burning or scorching or a hot spot. The door is definitely warm in places (particularly behind the handle area), but I had been purposely running my hand over the door wanting to see if it was really hot (I too had read about the same problems you are mentioning, and my husband thought I was nuts to do this). It certainly doesn't stay hot for an hour though. We replaced an old dual fuel Jennair with much less power than this one, and our kitchen definitely seems warmer now than before because of the venting of the Wolf's non self-cleaning oven (we had self-clean and electric oven before). But, we also don't have any ventilation hooked up yet. So far the top has cleaned up quite easily. The turkey had spattered as it roasted, and my husband wiped out the inside of the range, including taking out the side rack supports so he just had a clean swipe to do. He said it wasn't too bad cleaning it up, but he can see how keeping on top of this is the way to operate so it won't get too bad. And, LOL, this is the first time in forty years of marriage he has ever cleaned an oven! I'd try the appliances forum for more comments....See Morecatherinet
