Which appliances should I NOT buy used?
Comments (8)It would all be in consideration of a cost vs value or benefit vs risk. I would not buy any appliance with a computer board without a longterm warranty. From there it would depend on your ability to look at the mechanics and see if anything is wrong. Don't buy anything on the secondary market you don't know anything about. Our kids have bought appliances at auctions for $10-$30 just to have a second frig or a freezer. They were in workng condition at the auction house and they had good luck. We have seen many brand new washing machines recently that were selling for $5-$10 just because they don't wash well. I would sooner take a chance on an older Maytag or something like that, that can be fixed. You would have to know about it though....See More1.2 cu ft microwave drawer compared to 1.0 cu ft microwave drawer
Comments (3)thanks rhome-according to the specs, the viking is 5 7/8", and the sharp is 7 1/8". so, its less than 2" difference. i'm just having a hard time visualizing. Or, better yet, trying to recall exactly what it is if anything that i'm going to run into problems with when i try to put it in there and if the taller height is really going to mean alot in the end. our coffee mugs would fit and so would plates, bowls, etc...i'm hoping for feedback from people who have the sharp 1.0 cu ft microwave drawer to weigh in on how much of a difference it would be to them to have the extra height. my current microwave only has 7" now if you only count the usable area on top of the carousel. it has a browning coil on the top that takes up space and if you take the carousel plate and piece that turns the carousel, it seems alot larger....See MoreShould I buy a warming drawer?
Comments (10)I use my warming drawer about once a week and I'm glad to have it. It comes in especially handy when we have a sit-down dinner for a group that includes picky eaters and the regular folks, LOL. I usually prepare something simple for the picky eaters and stick it in the warming drawer while I'm cooking the rest of the meal. It works great and the food does not dry out, which thank goodness because then what would the picky eaters eat! I have two ovens and haven't had many occasions when I need to use both, plus the warming drawer, but there have been some (we've been in the kitchen for 3 years now). Mostly I like the drawer because it doesn't heat up the kitchen, it doesn't use a gigantic amount of electricity like heating a whole oven, and the food stays moist. My one complaint about the drawer is that it is low. Not that I have a problem bending down, but the first time I used it I left it open while moving dishes from the drawer to the table, and the dog thought the food was hers since it was "on the floor." LOL. I haven't bought any inserts and don't use the wire rack that came with it. I just put my regular serving dishes in there. I have gotten to the point recently where I ran out of space and will probably end up using the wire rack one of these days....See MoreWhich pull-out trash cans should I buy for a 26" cabinet?
Comments (4)Usually the cans are front and back, rather than side-by-side, since the cabinet is deeper than it is wide (or about the same). Your pull-out probably has actual slots for the cans, in which case they should come with the cabinet. If it's just an open drawer, you may have a hard time keeping them secure in there at an approximate size, but it will have to match the interior width of the drawer not the size of the cabinet door, so you may be looking for 25" or 24" cans anyway....See Morepaddykk
