Sounds to me like the moss is packed too tight!!! And coming from someplace like Proflowers, that wouldn't surprise me. They are not growers, they are just suppliers! I would assume their supplier does keep the moss packed tightly to cut down on watering. What you need to do is pull it out of the pot. Remove about a third of the moss from random areas on the root ball, loosen it up tease it out a little.Now stick the root ball back in the pot, you won't send it into shock. Sitting constantly in something wet and cold would be more shocking to me.You might want to incorporate a heating pad into the situation as well if you can. My orchids were just delighted when I added the heating pads to my set-up. I think they are much more important than humidity trays personally. Well said. :+) Mimicking the natural point of the healthy leaves can make a trim much less noticeable too. When it's time to water, taking to sink or shower can allow you to use enough water to make use of the flushing action & cleansing properties of the rain water. Apply as gently as possible so the force of gushing water doesn't compact soil. I don't think it's been mentioned yet if this pot has a drain hole in the bottom? Attached drain saucer? Either of these things (pot w/o hole, attached saucer) can be frustratingly impractical, often dangerous. I can never tell how deep I might need to feel around in a pot to find the moisture level, but I do know I don't enjoy doing that, and most of my pots have plants packed too tightly to allow it. Parking a wood skewer in there has a lot of fans. When you pull it out, you should be able to tell how moist, how deep, (depending on soil texture.) I use picking them up if I'm in doubt about whether or not to water. If it feels lighter than when I watered, a drink is probably fine. This is only a concern for some pots that don't have really chunky/porous/airy soil & need repotting soon. Over time, the kind of organic mix I use decomposes from larger bits to tiny bits*. I can tell when it has happened to the point that repotting is necessary when it seems like pots are always heavy after a week or so of no rain or me watering. Potting soil right from a bag usually falls into the category of tiny particles that take forever to dry out (and have no air between them.) That's not good because roots need oxygen & moisture @ the same time to function. With only moisture, there is rotting. Unglazed clay pots are another option, which allow evaporation (and oxygen access) from all sides of the root ball, not just the top and drain hole. *Putting plants outside for summer in hot, humid south Alabama plays a huge role in that. A plant that's always inside would go a lot longer without needing to be repotted, if starting on the same day in the same soil.

I'm with Humsi 100%. Leaving a healthy garden with a 10 day weather forecast, 3weeks is not such a big deal with a plan. bronxbill just asked about tomatoes. But did not mention when the three weeks away begins. If soon, and in the month of June, i see no issues. In the NY area we get on average an inch-2 rain weekly. You can have your cake and have a vacation and a garden. The best method is a simple soaker or drip system on a dial timer and show a neighbor the timer if no rain has occurred in a few days. They just need to turn it on for 1/2 hour-45 min depending on your flow. A self timer is ok but it will water even when not needed. Just get the system well ahead of time so it can be tested. Tomatoes do best under-watered than swamped. I have to leave all the time during the grow season and i just watch the weather while away, then text or e-mail one of two neighbors to turn on the timer. If weather turns hot and we have an unusual drought i have a back-up plan. I just returned from 3 weeks away last night. No watering was needed as i watched the weather. One neighbor added water in my tomato start trays just once mid-trip. All 120 starts look good but i blame no one if something went wrong. It really depends on your climate and the time of the season away. August a few years ago i had a local nursery employee check on things. He scored a bounty of produce. I was willing to pay but after dealing with customers all day he enjoyed a walk through my garden in peace and quiet twice a week. If dry he turned on the drip system right away and harvested. Only once did he leave it on 24hrs. (my water is free). A sprinkler is fine if you know what you are doing. Can be expensive and horribly inefficient in most parts of the country. Not the best system during holiday. Drip systems are very affordable these days. Customizing each plants water needs and can be added to anytime.

They can last outside of the soil easily for a month as long as they’re out of any direct sun. The direct sun could fry them. I’ve had succulents sit in my garage for months because of laziness🙂. I’m not saying to do this, but don’t worry if they’re out of the soil for a week. I heard a story, I think it was ASU or some University in a hot location. Someone put a big barrel cactus in a dark closet for five yrs and after those five yrs planted it in the ground. The cactus lived! Succulents have a lot of reserves, so they can go awhile without water or nutrients. Please nobody put there cactus in closets🌵.
