Is it okay to turn off cold water to washing machine?
Comments (11)Thanks everyone! Gates1--what is a kill-a-meter? I will be very interested to find out how hot yours is getting. badgergrrl--Does the booster just affect water to the washing machine or to the whole house? I am worried my 3 year old will scald himself if it is too hot everywhere. cyberspacer--you *can* do it, because I went ahead and did it and it works in that it does keep the cold water from entering, but I am just wondering if it is safe to do or if it could ruin the machine? As a side note...I have had this thing for less than 48 hours and there is condensation under the LED on/off button and the rest of the display. Any experience with this? Maybe I just have a lemon...? Thanks everyone!...See Moreventing discharge pipe for washing machine
Comments (1)It sounds to me like a leaky drain line is one possibility, although it could also be a leak in your roof. Water leaking though the roof, or around a vent protruding through the roof can follow a tricky path, showing up as a wet area on a ceiling some distance from its point of entry. Water always follows the path of least resistance. Water dripping through a roof or from around a pipe can flow along the bottom of a rafter or pipe, drip onto a joist, then run along the joist, then down the framing inside a wall before finally showing up as a wet area on a ceiling a long way from its origin -- sometimes even a floor or two below the point of intrusion. Have you had a lot of rain (or melting snow) lately? If so, you might want to inspect your roof and attic areas to see if you can trace the problem to something that's gone wrong there. If you don't find anything there, you may have to open the ceiling to locate the source of the problem....See MoreWashing Machine Using Hot When Set to Cold
Comments (20)The hot and cold inlet valves are separate solenoids, the control board sends power separately to each one. If the hot valve is energizing when cold water should be running, then it's an electrical problem of some ilk. Control board, or temp sensor (thermistor), or maybe the inlet valve assembly IF the thermistor is part of the valve, or maybe a shorted wire for the hot va. You'd need to research parts diagrams for your model to identify the various components involved. You can confirm that hot water is running when it should be cold by turning your cold water supply OFF at the faucet. Run wash cycle set to (tap) cold, or a Rinse & Spin cycle (which should be only a cold fill). Assuming it goes to filling, quickly turn the hot faucet off and note if the incoming water flow stops....See MoreWashing machine waste pipe question
Comments (4)Some clothes washers do require the elevated location of the top of the discharge hose. Lowering it to floor level typically drains the machine and the pump-- very useful when preparing to store the machine in an unheated area. While HUD code did/does (?) provide for 1 1/2" washer drain line, regular plumbing codes have for many years required 2" for washers. Dumping into the shower pan may not let the water flow out of the pan as fast as the washer discharges it. I too have had to live with temporary arrangements while occupying rental housing. We used the kitchen sink. for the washer drain....See MoreJora
