Comments (18)Taigen, I am not positive, but I think that your pictures are of a Viceroy bf and not a Monarch. It is easy to confuse them. I have 3 books here on butterflies and the pictures fail to show either of them in both open wing and closed wing position. It is rare to catch a Monarch with it's wings spread open, so I decided to search out the differences in the two. Your butterfly has the curved black line crossing the middle of the hind wing that identifies it as a Viceroy....See MoreI'll Show You Mine, If You'll Show Me Yours, Sunday Nov. 28th

Comments (31)Moni, nice to see your Australian photo, but I have to correct your statement that most people have water tanks in Australia. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics only 26% of homes have them. That being said, they are becoming more common in newer suburbs, where laws regarding new builds require the tanks to be included. Those tanks in your photo are huge. Not what the average backyard would have. That size might be seen in more rural areas where there is no mains supply, but not in the average suburban back yard. The smaller ones also seen in the photo would be more realistic in the average home....See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - Th 7/28/22

7 years agoRedbuds in full bloom. I just saw my first hummingbird a few minutes ago! And yesterday two beautiful butterflies were flying around while I was working in the yard.
7 years agoMy neighbor trimmed her pussywillow bushes and gave me a couple of good sized branches to plant. Apparently you can just stick them in the ground and they will grow! It's worth a try.

A fun feature on the puzzle I am doing right now. I take a long long time to do my puzzles so you probably won't ever really see the whole thing :-).
7 years agoSince I mostly have weeds sprouting now, here is a photo (from about 10 days ago) in response to yeonassky's photo:
Notice that the arrows make no sense, since Spain and France are indicated in opposite directions! No wonder we got lost. Photo is from Pulguero, where we had lunch that day. I do love signs like these!
7 years agoI have a couple of those signs too! This is a fun twist on today's photo thread.
From Bangkok, Thailand:
Vientiane, Laos:
I have no idea as to the accuracy of the signs.

Here's another place where we often got lost: Death Valley:
Teakettle junction, on my birthday, 2013.
This sign in Fiji helped us find Noth Beach
which is where our room was, but we snorkeled at South Beach.

Eye Catcher Orchid Iris, blooming now. This is new in my garden, planted last Fall.
7 years agoAll pretty harbingers of spring; even the directional signs point to summer. The weeds are thriving at my house too. An early sign of spring around here is this tree - first to bloom. Since this morning I thought to take a picture of it, I will share it with you.
Always projects to do at the riverhouse. This project is to redesign the walkway. DH took up some slate and dug out the lamp post. The plan is to relocate a new lamp post and plant grass so it is easier to trailer a boat around the little house, the white house in the photo above. We also laid a pick up truck load of mulch and need at least one more.

Lars has me looking for signs now. Here is a directory for Srinakharinwirot University in Thailand. :-)

I have one for Lars also. It's from the Ring of Kerry in Ireland. Apparently there aren't as many places to go there. :)
