Wood hood off-center on wall, would it look like a bad design?
Comments (8)My cooktop and hood are not centered on the wall. They do line up with the window on the other side (which is basically cented on that wall, but the walls are not even) and the center of the island and light fixture over the island. My wall is 33" DO cabinet -- 48" bake center (48" base and 45" upper)--42" hood -- 24" micro drawer base with 21" upper above. About 24" of the 33" oven cabinet is setoff against a 24" deep wall of cabiunets perpendicular to it. There is an open doorway there, so no corner cabinets. I think it all looks balanced because of the relationship between the walls, window, etc. In a different room, it might not work as well....See Moreseeking design advice for off center fireplace and tv
Comments (2)I'd create two separate areas, yes one, smaller one, next to the windows-two armchairs with a table between them. probably would go with something legged..more visually light, as to obscure windows the less..or give an impression I'm obscuring them the less:) another, bigger one, for TV watching..a sofa..an angled chair on the right much like you have now, but looking smaller..I might consider doing smth different since several chairs in the room..maybe a rocking chair? I might also go for an ottoman instead of a coffee table-can serve as additional seating if needed. I might also find a garden stool as one of the side tables-again, opportunity for additional sitting, if a lot people use a room at once. Round shapes will also break the lines of all the rectangular furniture, so I'd definitely take it into account when shopping. I also might do something patterned to add interest..say two armchairs, or an ottoman, or a chair in bigger sitting area.. Rugs would help to delineate different zones, so another idea to consider. Pretty room. Once you get your balance right-full of potential to be very cozy....See MoreDesign dilemma: Off-center bath faucet or knee wall?
Comments (6)Hi Jan, Thanks for your input. Right now I'm exploring possibilities. The job will be professionally done and precise measurements will be taken. Here are the measurements (clockwise) noting B and C walls are completely tiled and measurements are before tile is removed: A) 117.5" Longest wall (left with vanity) B) 103" Wall with window (top) C) 89.5" Short wall (right) D) 42.5" (shower depth) E) 28" wall behind door Note: on the other side of the wall behind the door is an open stairwell and space is needed for clearance walking upstairs I've measured the fixtures in the showroom and they each lose an inch when installed: Bathtub = 31" x 66" before installation Shower = 42" x 36" before installation (door will open on short side) Toilet space is not an issue. Even with a knee wall there's 33.5" of width and there will be at least 26.5" in front depending where I place it. The space between the shower and bathtub is trickier with only 24.5" of open space. This is the only place in the house where there is a bath and shower and there is no possibility of opening up the space or placing either elsewhere. Right now I have a shower that is too small and a tub that is too big with a dividing wall between them. Linen is not a priority as I have a good sized linen closet in the hallway. This is not our forever home but we plan to stay in it another 13 years....See MoreOld Off-centered stone fireplace design help
