I bought taro roots from the Oriental stores month of December, I just put them in a tray no water and leave them on the refridgerator then i check back the end of January you can see the green slips coming out from the tubers, so plant each tuber in those lil containers with soil potmixing ( i used some small coconut fiber cups 4" high) from HomeDepot then l line them up in a tinfoil pan with water 1 " by the window for 2 wks, check back you won't believe they 6" inches tall but I wait till mother's day then I transfered them to outside garden, i fertilized them with all purpose then I flooded them with water everyother day. They grow about 3' tall, my problem that I should cut out the old leaves liked it mention above so they grow taller. We cook the taro leaves with cornbeef as our best dish for dinner. What I am asking for I have tubers ready to plant outside but afraid might they get by the frost, is there any idea when to start plant them, last year I plant them very late.

Yep, the guy who sold them to me when I bought them said "I think they're getting too much water, they need to get in the ground" So I bought them and took them home and put them in the ground. Then today he looked at the clippings and said "you haven't watered them since Saturday, you need to water them every other day and babysit them" Total contradiction.....It's apparent he has no clue, he's setting up a "blame the buyer" excuse to not honor the warranty. It fries my bacon....and yes, he seemed like an idiot. I'd rather trust you guys here who have dealt with Thuja Green Giants before. Is it possible that at my elevation (about 6500 ft.) that they could have plenty of water, but are being killed by the sun due to higher sun exposure rates due to altitude? Are they sensitive to that? (as in it's easier for a person go get a sunburn at high altitude) By the way, this particular nursery was the only one of 5 in my general area that even carried the Green Giants. Maybe that should tell me something.

Nat, I am really concerned that you are going to kill your roses by constantly doing something to them. All they need is the correct amount of water and control of blackspot if it appears (I haven't seen it in your pictures). If you added manure to the soil, then you have fertilized for the season. Look online at pictures of rose blackspot. Notice the shape of the spots and the fuzzy margins. If you find this on your plants, you can stop its spread with a fungicide containing only tebuconazole or propiconazole every 2-4 weeks. Blackspot will spread in summer after overnight wetting, or on drippy days in spring or fall. It requires long wetting with temperatures in the 60s and 70s.

It looks like you have it inside the house. Stachys byzantina - Wooly Lamb's Ears is not meant to be an indoor plant. Do you have a sunny spot to plant it outside? They like a fairly poor soil and do not need or want fertilizer. Water only when it starts to get dry if you keep it in a container. You did the right thing by getting it out of the soggy soil. They are strong plants so it will very likely recuperate. Simply trim off any damaged leaves. If you cannot plant it in the ground put it outside. Many zone 7 folks are talking about freezing weather so if your area is affected just wait a day or two until it warms up.
