It is an old joke that Dads and Granddads pulled on kids. "Pull my finger" and the the persons "f**ts. I haven't seen it where Granddad was on fire, thus the soot. In today's political correct world, instead of seeing it as soot, you saw blackface.

Since I just had a kitchen fire (small) (but a huge mess through out the house), I saw soot. When the heat pump picks it up and throws it through the vents and you have louvered closet doors, you have soot EVERYWHERE.

They are great. Just smoked up the house and fried the over the cabinet microwave. Fire department did not have to use water. the pets are fine and we are fine. Just a big mess.

I saw black face, esp. with the hair. It looks like a wig, and the child is white if I'm seeing the arms and not a shirt. I agree, the world being very PC right now makes a cute joke not so much.

I definitely saw an exploding fart, a real scorcher! But I have heard the pull my finger joke for years.

I wasn't offended (by imagining blackface) by the child and I knew it was a joke that grandpa's "fa*t" had exploded. It really bothered me that the pic looks old and like a real child who'd been in a tragedy - or else someone had subjected him to awful and dangerous looking make up.

But then I looked again and it appears to be a painting, so I imagine "no child was injured." :-)

It didn't even occur to me. I REALLY think people need to CHILL. If a person was truly offended we can apologize, if someone is just FEARING the PC police I say LET IT GO!! When people take offense where none was intended or even IMAGINED who is the smaller person?

I know. I do not like our new and UNIMPROVED society.

I suppose the people who are harmed by the history and uses of blackface should be able to decide whether it's offensive and once we've learned that it's hurtful and even worse, I don't see anything wrong with trying to inform others who may not know that it is. In fact, I feel an obligation to take the burden away from the objects of ridicule to inform and do so when I can. Just like the power I feel when men speak out against things that harm women, domestic violence, sexual assault, unequal pay, objectification, harassment, etc. I think it's powerful for non-black people to join and raise their voices to object.

When men act harmfully and offensively to women, I don't want them to be able to say - hey, it was just a JOKE. I think this is similar.
