RE: Things I would NOT recommend or things I dislike! #2
Comments (34)Different strokes for different folks...... LOVE LOVE LOVE our trash compactor. Took one out of our last kitchen remodel and replaced it with 2 pullout trash cans. I *hated* the trash pullouts! They were twice as bulky, and we had to empty them every day. The trash compactor is one unit (though we have a separate bin for curbside recyclables), and we empty it maybe once a week. I also love my corner lazy susan cabinets. I have 3 of them; one for spices, one for medicines and coffee/tea supplies, and one for little-used small gadgets. They totally make our corners useful, and I don't have things fall off the sides. Things I would not recommend: -OTR micro. I agree about that one. I hate how close to the cooktop they are, and the totally inadequate venting. -Open kitchens if you have teenagers and you don't have a house with enough "getaway" space for everyone. OUr last house only had one living room, which we opened to the kitchen in the remodel. It looked beautiful, and when it was just DH and I, we loved it. But when we were sitting down in the evening trying to unwind and watch a show and teaming throng of teenagers burst through the door and starts fixing food, getting ice, etc., we quickly began to hate the setup. We moved to a house with doors on the kitchen and 2 living rooms and couldn't be happier. (For now!)...See MoreHelp with my preliminary drawings! I dislike them
Comments (12)ok, I'll post a link to kitchens for you. clickHERE In case you get lost, come here and go to the top where it says 'home forums' (there's a few options there) - it's above the topic line for this thread. the 'new here? Read me first' by buehl thread is about 10 or so down now. just scan down the list for it. Also, on the 1 page here or on kitchens you can go to the left of the area where you'd type your thread post and title and you'll see a 'Gardenweb forums'. under that are a few, but I think if you click on it a bunch will open up for you. there's cooking, gardening and many more options! if worst comes to worst, post here again and I'll check back tomorrow again. or someone else will show up. I do agree that the architect should have put in what you wanted to be there! also, think about aging in place things as you go. we have some threads here about that too. That time of life gets here faster than we wanna think. Besides some of those things are good just in case someone breaks a leg and is using a walker... I don't think the 'link' thing worked properly up above but if you click where the green HERE is it'll open up and show the URL, then click on that to go to kitchens....See MoreI dislike my preliminary drawings!
Comments (21)Mush We really don't have a choice, we need to relocate all the plumbing. I need 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths upstairs. There is an unfinished basement where the existing house is now but we will be adding a basement also under the new extension. We have sewers here. JDS Thanks for your words. I just spoke to the architect and discussed my concerns with him and he is going to do another rough sketch. MAMA took your idea and presented it to the architect. I also dont really need a formal dining room so that works for me to move it there. I will make it more of my everyday eating room....See MoreIncorporating a chair I dislike!
Comments (65)There is no good way to arrange this room thanks to the tv! I have it on graph paper and all the furniture cut out to scale. The 40" tv is on the opposite wall of the sofa; and the room is over 18 ft. long. A little too far for comfortable viewing. Ok for me, not ok for my husband. He likes to sit closer. And to watch tv from the naughty chair, whether it is placed on the wall shown or the wall where the cream chair is, the naughty chair has to be turned at an angle to watch tv. It should have been a swivel. OR the tv could be on the wall where the cream chair is, and the naughty chair opposite the tv, between the 2 windows. But then the entire side of the naughty square BOX is the first thing you see from the entryway when entering the living room. There's just no way for this chair to blend in and look like it belongs. I guess we need another chair, in addition to, or in place of the naughty chair that is shaped like a SQUARE BOX . Can you tell I still can't talk myself into liking it?...See MoreR pnwz8a
