I like a lot of the rules of feng shui but also feel rules r meant to be broken. I always decorate my bedroom to be a peaceful retreat: no TVs, no computers, phone turned off at night. Only music. As far as walls and doors and windows: I pick the most comfortable one to fit the furniture in an attractive, uncluttered way. In my new tiny cottage I started out with the headboard against a short wall, feet facing the hall door but found it too cramped to make the bed with the night stands on top of it. I was able to see out my windows into the back yard though so for awhile I liked this. But I now have the headboard under the windows with much more room on either side for the night stands. I didn't think I'd like it but the first night sleeping in a new direction felt great. And that's good enough for me. I also like being able to reach back and open/shut a window or blind from the bed. So far I'm loving it. Now instead of looking out the window down into the yard, I look at the other walls and the art I hung. cool.

Here's the linen color headboard and variations on a theme :) I switched over to a damask on the valance, tried the light curtains around the inner windows and on the outside of the nook (like the height better in virtual), tried dark panels around the bed, and! dark panels around the bed, lights around the windows and also framing the nook. Sheers are over the windows and the simplicity is soft and perfect (can put inexp rollers behind them for nightime privacy). Hi everyone! Thank you so much again for your help and guidance. I thought I should pop in here for a quick update (I just hate when people post a question and never update their resolution!). It took almost 2 years but I'm finally at a good place with the bedroom decor. We ended up putting the bed up against the window because of symmetry and it also opened up a big space at the foot of the bed where we can play with our dog. We also ended up with a queen bed instead of a king. We don't mind the bed in front of the window at all. The bed has a wire headframe and barely blocks the light. We just need to hang some pictures or paintings and I think I can call the bedroom done! Thank you again for all of your wonderful suggestions and advice!

It is kind of like Facebook, but only for your neighborhood and it limited to a certain area by zip code I think. You can sell things, ask for recommendations, report lost/found animals, etc.
