We have the first generation of LG French door, purchased about 4 or 5 years ago for our renovation. At the time, it was the most highly recommended fridge both in here and in other media. Big mistake...we never had any problems with the lights burning, but the cheap plastic interior crisper bins and shelves kept breaking. Now the freezer door will not stay closed. We are getting rid of it and replacing it with the Samsung CD FD. We just purchased it today at Lowe's for $2069...it's about $3300 at Sears. Lowe's is having a big sale, plus some rebates and WA State energy rebates brought it down to the price we got. It's frustrating...originally I wanted the SZ 650, but didn't want to spend 5-6K. Now between the LG and the new Samsung, I could have purchased the SZ. And I hate the idea of getting rid of a fridge only 5 years old...talk about a waste of resources. By the way, customer service at LG was horrible every time I called. Never again.

I currently have a 36 in. wide 12 in. deep cabinet far back over the refrigerator. I have opened it once in the last 10 years. So, it's basically not used and is just filling in the space I could use for display. Actually, I use the top of the refrigerator in front of this cabinet for display. I also have a 27 in. wide cabinet over the built in oven and microwave combo, at 67 in. off the floor. I use it for vertical storage of cookie sheets, etc. I hate it! Over the years it has become the "stuff the big items in" cabinet. Even if I get dividers I don't think this type of cabinet will work for me. Instead, I will place the oven under the countertop, eliminating this big cabinet, opening up the kitchen, and have a stack of drawers next to it. So, cookie sheets and muffin tins will go into one drawer, roasting pans into another, serving trays into another, etc. No more digging or stuffing in a large cabinet for me! This is why I do not want to put a 36 in. wide 24 in. deep cabinet over the refrigerator... but need to think through how display shelves will work with everything else on that wall of the kitchen. Also, we have a wall on one side of the refrigerator that comes out 20 inches. So, I don't want a 24 inch deep cabinet extending past that wall, closing in the kitchen (or 29 inch if we want the full build in look for this non countertop depth refrigerator).

Doors, but I urge you to build the cabinet as deep as the fridge, probably deeper than the surrounding cabinets, inclosing the sides of the fridge to match. And install a full depth pull out tray, as shallow as possible. With a pull out tray, you can reach items stored over the fridge from both sides as well as from the front without having to lean over or around the fridge. Then, are you sure you need that much tray storage? Most tray storage I see wastes a lot of horizontal space. Trays can be stored quite close together with no loss of convenience. With a pull out, you could use third party tray dividers as wide as needed and use the extra space to store a few oversized pots and pans. I hadn't thought to do that. I have been looking for a convenient place for mine. Think I'll try that by just installing two hooks on the inside of each door. Here is my fridge cab open and partially pulled out, showing the oversize pots that are stored there. I could easily remove a couple of the big pots and add a rack for storing sheet pans. And I love the idea of the cooling racks hanging on the doors. My Kenmore bought in 2013 (a rebadged LG) has all of your wants except color and wheels (I have tried to pull it out and can't, but I remember being able to do so with the Whirlpool it replaced) - and maybe size (it is a 30" which is plenty for my house). I would gladly remove the icemaker - I was actually just thinking about doing that because I rarely want ice - to get that bit more storage space. If I could get it out, and get help to lift it, I think that I have room in its niche to allow me to place shallow casters for it to sit on. I remember making the crew put the stove on felt sliders, but really don't remember about this fridge. ETA: the Whirlpool/Big Chill above looks just like the one I replaced after some 20 years. The bins and shelves are the same.
