Which FD Refrigerator is More Reliable? LG or KitchenAid ?
Comments (16)I have a kitchen aid too. mine is the full depth version that is 32 5/8" wide X 70" tall. I was going to get a narrow SxS to fit in the smallish corner that is provided by my kitchen lay out but decided a french door would do better with some help in here. At the time I wanted ice and water in the door but found that to be an expensive idea in this type and size. I ended up with this KA because we found it at HH Gregg as a floor model close out, they were not going to carry this size any more which is near 22 cuft. this one has water and ice but the water is in the fridge which work fine and stays cleaner than on the door might. Mine looks like Fivezero's but it sticks out more from the cabinet and the left door is narrower than the right. I have no issue with gallons in either side, the bottom left door shelf will only hold one being not as wide but I still have room for a katshup bottle next to it. The right bottom shelf also often has two tea pitchers. I like the crispers and the bottom try that we use one side of for deli meats and cheeses and the other side for other small snacks. I have made the layout work well. I like the freezer too the bins are nice, I think its easier to find items than the top freezer model I had, a 29 year old Frigidaire that was still running and running. I had the KA since April 2012 so far its been running well. the only fault I can find is that if its humid you will need to use the moisture control option and sometimes I have seen condensation on the center bar that makes the seal between the doors and t drips down to the freezer gasket and needs an occasional wipe this summer, but then I don't have central ac in my old house to keep it more evenly cool than window units to so others my not see that small issue....See MoreKitchen Aid vs LG bottom freezer refrigerator
Comments (4)LG had some serious problems with their French Door models that used incandescent bulbs for the interior lighting. What would happen is the lights would occasionally stay on after the doors were closed. This would eventually cause the light fixtures to melt the plastic inside the fridge. Not good. LG has now gone to LED lighting which is what we have in our fridge. We are quite happy with the performance of our LG fridge so far, but from what a lot of other people have told the forum when they ran into trouble with the LG meltdowns they got nothing but grief from LG over it. So I would not buy any LG with incandescent bulb lighting period, and I would also be sure that whoever sells you the unit has a good solid repair capability. If they don't, I'd blow off the LG and try something different. The model you specified, when I looked it up on the LGE site, says it uses 2 40 Watt lights. Those would be incandescents; I'd be a bit wary....See MoreSamsung vs Kitchen Aid French door fridge - help please
Comments (20)I've been going through a similar process but with models without the second external drawer and or through-the-door water and ice. The Kitchenaid is a Whirlppol product and, as far as I can tell, is assembled with Whirlpool's other FD fridges at the factory in Amana, Iowa. Even though i apparently shares compoents with the other Whirlpool products, KA offers a ten year warranty on the sealed systems but the other Whirlpool fridges only give you a 1 year warrranty. KA's warranty is 1 year everything, parts and labor on the sealed systems through year five and parts only for years six through 10. Equally interesting, most Samsungs only give you a one year warranty like Whirlppols but the particular "four door" model has 5 year warranty on the sealed system. All of that being said, the warranty is only as good as the service companies you can call when you need help. Some places, you have choices. Others, you do not. Some service companies are good and some are terrible. The warranty isn't worth much if you have to wait three weeks to even get somebody to come out and look at your dead fridge. Do, do check on the warranty coverage and find out if you have choices. Samsung seems to have had particular difficulties in that area but Whirlpool brands often use the same low-bid service companies and can be equally bad. Getting some "hands-on" time is also excellent advice for making a choice. Look what what you like to keep in the fridge and how you can arrange the shelving to hold it. That fourth drawer may be very useful to some folks and a royal pain to others. Until you lay hands n it and see how the unit works for you, it can be really hard to tell if it will work for you or not. For instance, are you somebody who needs to store gallon jars of pickles? Maybe you will want to stash a 3 gallon pickle crock? Will you be brining 20 lb. turkeys? If so, can you arrange the shelving so that you can store these things conveniently? Do you need to supply milk to whole platoons of kids? If so, where are you going to put the containers? Maybe you have a world-class collection of mustards? Do you need slide-out shelves to access that half-acre collection of small condiment jars? How do the tempeature and humidty controls work for you? Sliders are fine for some folks and anathema to others....See MoreKitchenAid vs. Whirlpool 5- Door French Door Refrigerators
Comments (0)I am looking online at the KitchenAid 5-door Refrigerator KRMF706EBS and trying to compare it to the Whirlpool 5-door refrigerator WRV976FDEM. I was told that Whirlpool makes KitchenAid.... are they identical in all respects except for logo and the fact that the Whirlpool is much cheaper? Also, only the KitchenAid comes in that new black stainless steel finish which is supposedly fingerprint and smudge resistant and easier to clean. Is that true? Is black stainless steel better than regular stainless steel? Does anyone have experience with these models and can speak to their ease of use, reliability, durability as compared to comparable models made by Samsung or LG?...See Moremojavean
