Opinion - Inexpensive Luxury Vinyl for Bedroom
Comments (8)We have Allure vinyl plank flooring from Home Depot. It looks pretty nice, and it's a breeze to clean. We do need to be careful moving furniture across it as it can scuff or scratch, and it's a good idea to keep those doggy nails trimmed to keep them from marking it as well. (But aren't these things true for hardwood flooring as well?) In our old house I started to wear away the finish where I slid my chair in and out at the desk, but a floor mat would have solved this problem. Allure is pretty water resistant, but in addition to the peel and stick style we use (my dh's dream floor to install), they also make a click style that they claim is water proof. Honestly, we've never had problems with things leaking through on the basic peel and stick style. The salesman said that he really liked the click style for ease of install since if you arent used to getting tight seams with the sticky style, the click is easier to get the seams really tight....See MoreLuxury Vinyl Tile Plank Opinions
Comments (8)We also have the Adura LVP, in Essex Oak. We have stairs that come down into the room, so when we found out that Mannington was (at the time; I don't know if anything newer than Nov 2015 has come onto the market) the ONLY mfg who offered one-piece stair treads, we turned our attention solely to that line. You may want to know that our vendor absolutely refuses to do a click-lock install on LVP. Glue-down only is their policy. They said they had way too many consumer problems with click-lock installs on LVP versus zero complaints with glue-down. Two different contractors and three different friends who were experienced remodelers, all thought the flooring was wood. The LVP is only slightly separated, at a right angle, by our kitchen flooring, from a 1940's red oak flooring. We were pretty amazed that no one could tell the LVP wasn't "real" wood, with the red oak flooring so close by. Sorry our experience is less than a year so far. But we have been very pleased with the LVP. Easy, easy, easy to keep clean. Do note that some folks who have had LVP very long-term have said fade occurs in strong daylight situations. I can attest that even the highest quality LVT does suffer color changes in strong direct daylight. Our kitchen flooring is Metroflor LVT in a slate-look tile, installed in 2003. I recently had to have a single tile replaced, whose corner edge had chipped off. It wasn't until after replacement I noticed the new tile (from an extra box I bought at the same time) which had been used to protect a table surface but was exposed for about 10 yrs to more direct sun than my kitchen floor, IS now a very slightly different color than the rest of the kitchen tiles. It has a color shift to the more brown/tan hues, than the others. It's not terribly noticeable - after six months I don't think my DH has ever noticed it - but UV shift is something to be aware of if you have windows with direct sun coming in, that are not coated with UV reduction film. YMMV, of course. This is a 25x18' MBR: Close-up: The one-piece stair tread, with mitered side edge:...See MoreLuxury Vinyl Plank opinions, please
Comments (17)jakkom, I am also choosing Mannington Adura, but having a tough time with the color options! I want a color that will stand the test of time (not trendy), warm, light to medium brown and I would say my decor leans towards tropical/Hawaiian. A lot of the vinyl colors are trying too hard and end up very busy and stripey, The Oak looks really good in this regard, but then Oak is, well, Oak and I was hoping for something a little different. I'm wondering which Essex Oak you went with...is it "Natural" or "Honeytone"? It seems the Natural looks less grainy but also a little less warm looking and in some lights falls a little flat and goes a hair pink. The Honeytone is warmer but more grainy. I definitely don't want an orangey Oak, does yours go orangey at all? The other color I was considering for its plainness and non-oakyness was Canadian Maple, but can that be combined with a warm tropical vibe? And it seems like it would show every little speck of dirt if I don't clean all the time. To the other extreme I was looking at Burma Teak Butternut. The coloring is tropical but I fear it will be too stripey busy and scream "look at me". Thoughts? Also your vinyl stair treads look fabulous, the installers did a great job cutting them to butt flush against the wall without adding fussy trim pieces. Do you know how they did that? My installer doesn't want to do the vinyl stair caps because he said there are often not perfect straight edges on either side of stair treads at the wall and wood is easier to cut and sand to get that exact fit so you don't see thin gap lines at the side wall edges. Also, do you think a carpet runner down the center could be put down on top of the vinyl or if that is my plan should I go with wood for all the stapling that would happen and it would put holes in the vinyl? Do you have any pictures you could post of a full length of your stairs and the room with the Essex Oak with furniture in it now? I'm hoping to hear from jakkom but any one else please chime in as well! FYI, I am also having my installer do the glue down method. I have looked at other brands including Modin (which can be special ordered to do glue down, but the color choices just aren't right unfortunately... they look so different online vs in person samples). Many thanks! Lisa B...See MoreSeeking opinions regarding SPC and WPC luxury vinyl planks
Comments (2)If you haven’t already done so, Google—SPC versus WPC and read about the differences. SPC is more stable than the WPC, and as you mentioned, the SPC can withstand temperature variables and sun better than the WPC. If you get an SPC with an attached pad, I don’t think you will find it to be uncomfortable to stand on. We are putting down an SPC product, Supercore, from WeShipFloors.com, and I put several planks of it in front of my kitchen sink and stove and left it for several days. I did not find it to be uncomfortable at all. I love that it‘s not slippery like some of the WPC products I had samples for. The SPC will be able to handle heavy furniture better than the WPC which is another reason we chose the SPC. WeShipFloors.com sells the Adura products as well as the SuperCore. I suggest you give them a call-Alan or Zoe-and they will be glad to answer any questions you have. They are located in Tennessee. 1-844-356-6711 Good luck with your retirement apartment.
