Changing kitchen from warm to cool tones

We are planning to change our kitchen to cooler tones by swapping our current cabinets to white/off white, changing countertops and island to lighter quartz and changing the backsplash, along with swapping out the decor, lights and pendants. The dilemma is that we cannot change the floors which have mainly beige and cream tones with some grey. Could we do a Calacatta style quartz on the island and white/off white perimeter cabinets with a greige/grey island?

you'll need to keep to the warmest shades of colors you'd prefer, in order for them to still work with your flooring.

Gray-warmest greige bordering taupe might work

Off white-warmest off white might work

You'll need for both colors to go together too.

As for countertops-no I wouldn't go for marble look quartz, too cool (temperature-wise) with your floors, and pattern is distinct and bold..too much with your flooring. Stones are bossy and picky and it's often hard to have several in one space.

You can pick more uniform surface though for a "cleaner" look. Plain Quartz? A natural stone that has more uniformity to it?

You can make it less busy..you can't completely drift away into cool color pallette as long as your floors stay. They'll always dictate your colors, to a degree. Or rather, shades of colors.

Cold is over. The new is vibrant jewel tones and warm metals and woods. Forget the dead gray bandwagon.

I wouldn’t go as far as the previous poster... The trend is headed more toward a balanced overall color temp that has both warm and cool elements... but that being said, we all like what we like and good design is timeless so if something bright, clean, and cool is what you want then go for it!

Please post some pictures so we can see the space and your flooring. Grays vary greatly in undertone and can work with almost any color as long as you get the choose the right one.

I've been here three years, haven't decorated a thing.. I always knew I wanted to paint, so I wanted to wait. Once I get the palette toned down some, then I feel I can invest in some worthy decor and art. Knowing I want to paint a cooler palette, do you have ideas for a cooler palette? The blue chair I think is an adverse reaction to all the warm tones and yellow. I couldn't help it. I also moved from a 1400 sf house to a 3800 sf one, so between hating the color and no decor, this is what I have at the moment :) I hope to change it soon as I get paint on the wall!!

Yes, on a Sunday- The drywallers showed up this am to start putting up the sheet-rock.. FLo- waiting on a rendering/drawing for the 2 masterbath towers from the kd. Went to the local little island hardware store that carrys BM paint, brought back a bunch of paint chips to look at in the house for a start.. Because the house is very open, looking for something that I can use in/for kitchen, foyer, Dr & living areas. Jan- we are building on a small island, off of another island, no designers here on this island...I agree with you on the floor issue, I just need to convince dh- about the flow and using wood throughout.

So, just a quick update. Still waiting on the rug & pillows to arrive. In the meantime a World Market *just* opened up near us and they had cinnamon pillows! I also found a funky wooden "tray" that I liked. Do the old pilllows go? Or do I need to find something else to tie it in? Also, thinking of hitting West Elm tomorrow. Browsing their website I found this cluster of vases I like - might put these on the console. Maybe the mantle? I need something warm on the TV console too.. I also found these blue ones, don't think I like them as much. They also had some cherry wood ones, but I think if I redo the large framed artwork I won't need them up there. Maybe use these for the TV console? Or keep looking? Also saw this chair at World Market that I like, but I'm going to wait until the carpet comes in. It's getting there!

A rug with a pattern that has cool and warm tones will help tie everything together. You can also balance the warm and cool around the room with accessories and art.

We just did this very same switch. I will send pictures. Actually, some of our friends were against our doing it because they loved our warm, cozy, dark wood, yellow walled kitchen. We are all thrilled with the change. Tonight when i get home, I will try to figure out how to post pictures.

I agree with aprilneverends, the warmer greys will work and it will really brighten up the look without being too stark.

Some of the calacatta quartz patterns have some warmer backgrounds that would work well with the flooring. I don’t think it’s the grey you have to worry about as much as staying away from super bright whites.

Straight from the IBS and KBIS shows last month. Grey has gone and color is THE hot thing being done on the coasts.
